Leonardo Express train from FCO

Recommended Posts

Has anyone taken the Leonardo Express train from FCO into Rome Termini?

I know it is 9.5 Euro and that it takes 30 minutes, but where exactly do you buy tickets, and what is the situation with luggage.

In your opinion is it easy to do?

We are planning on taking the express into Termini and the Metro to our hotel ( we have taken the Metro before and are comfortable with that part of the trip)

Thanks

Yes, I have taken it.

At the train station are counters and vending machines available. You need to buy the ticket before you enter the train.

People at the counter will understand you if you say "to Rome" in English.

In some cars theirs are special luggage compartements - just leave your luggage there. If not - take it with you where ever you find your place.

Yes, I find it very easy. Like everywhere it is very comfortable if it is not fully occupied, and less comfortable if it is crowded and you might have to stand.

Just note that their might be a relatively long walk from the train to the metro in Rome. Of course both are part of Stazione Termini but not directly next to each other.

You have to use Euro. They don't take credit cards. All you do is follow the sign(s) that say "To Trains" (in English) and there there. Trains run every half hour, I believe. They also made it e-zier to get from getting out of Termini--it's not such a long walk. Hint: the train fills up fast--we were left sitting by the bathroom. We had to lug the luggage up stairs on the train in one of the compartments.

The Leonardo train is very easy. Once you collect your luggage at baggage claim just follow the signs to the train.

You can use a credit card for tickets, we did. Just go to one of the ticket machines and put in your credit card, piece of cake. There is also an ATM right near the train tracks to get euro too.

As to a crowded train, ours was not full at all. Probably depends on the time of day. By the time we finished with immigration and got our luggage it was around 10:00am.

The train to/from the airport now costs €11.

If you are using the machines to buy the tickets try and have the correct change - because the machines often run out - and issue you a credit note instead of change.

You have to then wait in line at the main ticket counter, where they fill out numerous forms to enable you to get your change back!

Trains leave Roma Termini for the airport on platform 24 at .22 and .52 past each hour and the trip takes 31 mins.

Left luggage facilities are available under platform 24 - there is a lift or there are stairs. Believe it is €3.80 per case up to 6 hrs.
