Lubeck vs Berlin

What A Market

Osselaer:

We drove to Lubeck from Hamburg a couple years ago. A very nice English speaking driver with Mercedes took us straight from the dock. I think it was 45 or 60 minute drive, but he was going pretty fast. Lubeck is a very pretty little city with quite a few medieval buildings left including the Rathaus and the city gates. You can walk around the touristy parts in an hour or so. The Cathedral was damaged during the war with the tower destroyed by a bomb, but they rebuilt it to look authentic on the outside. Inside it's reinforced concrete with an elevator (cost a couple bucks to use) that gives you a very good [handicap-accessible] view of the city from the top. After that we drove to a nearby seaport/fishing village that was maybe 15 minutes away. Can't remember the name now, but it was a pleasant if somewhat touristy stop. And of course we bought a fair amount of chocolate and marzipan while we were there.

Compared to a Berlin trip, there isn't as much to see, but it makes for a more relaxing day without so much drive time, and without feeling the need to husle around at Warp speed for fear of missing a lot.

We'll be calling at Rostock in July, and plan a similar excursion in that area, rather than Berlin, for those reasons.
