March Cruiser Posted March 5, 2007 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2007 Especially on formal nights - do you stay in your dresses late into the night or change? If I were going to a nightclub at home (which I never do anymore!) I would wear jeans and a cute top and maybe some high heals. What about on the cruise though? I wasn't planning on packing jeans, but now I am thinking about it. Any ideas? TIA! Chandra
yedimom Posted March 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2007 I have never been on a cruise before either. My first one will be march 18th we sail. I am packing jeans and capris for the club at night, however if people stay in their dresses I am all for getting more use out of my dresses. I know I will probably never be able to wear one of my formal dresses again so why not leave it on as long as I can. I love dressing up since I am a stay at home mom and wear nothing but sweats all day. Whats your opion? Yedimom
caviargal Posted March 5, 2007 #3 Share Posted March 5, 2007 I always stay dressed in what I wear to dinner. I really cannot understand why anyone would dress twice in a single evening but the younger folks seem to prefer it.
Hoyaheel Posted March 5, 2007 #4 Share Posted March 5, 2007 I remain dressed in whatever I wore for dinner (mainly because I'm usually at the late seating:rolleyes: ) I'm 33. Am I a "younger folk" or "older folk"? Don't know, just know I'm trying to pack lighter!!
TopElement Posted March 5, 2007 #5 Share Posted March 5, 2007 I'd suggest just keeping on whatever you wore to dinner. Plan ahead, and wear something that will be comfortable to dance in.
florida cruiser girl Posted March 5, 2007 #6 Share Posted March 5, 2007 Absolutely, no extra packing for me! Of course, we also do late dinner seating. So, I wear something that can go to anything the evening brings!!

Stormlover Posted March 6, 2007 #10 Share Posted March 6, 2007 Early seating for me. I am not real comfortable in heals so I usually change after dinner to something I can walk in and that my toes doen't freeze in, my feet tend to get cold then I freeze. ;) I always take nice jeans for the late nites.:DAnd I am middle aged .
hajekfam Posted March 6, 2007 #11 Share Posted March 6, 2007 On Celebrity, the dinner dress code is required (as printed in the daily) in all public venues of the ship for the whole evening - with the exception of the casual dining boulevard (the pool deck). There have been instances where people changed after dinner and were not allowed in the theater. It depends on how much they want to enforce the dress code. bububr Posted March 6, 2007 #12 Share Posted March 6, 2007 On certain lines like Celebrity, people stay dressed in their formals. You see very little of people changing especilly in the casinos, and shows. I have never attended any of the late night dance paties in the clubs but from what I have seen in pictures they remain dressed also. harveysalva Posted March 6, 2007 #13 Share Posted March 6, 2007 For me, it depends on how comfortable my formal attire is. Usually, I get cold and end up changing into pants or nice jeans to keep warm. Although, from reading this thread it seems as though most everyone will be staying in their dinner clothes, I see a lot of both. It's your vacation, as long as you are following the dresscode, I say be comfortable! Shelly
tomko2 Posted March 6, 2007 #14 Share Posted March 6, 2007 As soon as dinner is over I trade my formal for a nice velour outfit with flat shoes and head to the show and/or casino unless there is another function after dinner. We have early seating and sometimes a function is set for 8:00 so I keep my gown on for awhile longer on those evenings.
PJNJcruise5 Posted March 6, 2007 #15 Share Posted March 6, 2007 I think it depends on the cruiseline. I tend to stay dressed up for the shows but for the discos and late night buffet or walking on the outside upper decks most people change into nice pants more casual skirts or even jeans, saw more of the jeans on our last carnival cruise in the dance clubs. they were paired with cute tops and strappy sandals, something that one might wear to a nightclub. It seemed that the younger crowd 20-30 (I'm aging myself now) were the ones in the jeans and cute tops
caviargal Posted March 6, 2007 #16 Share Posted March 6, 2007 I agree that is cruise line dependent. Far more passengers were dressed down on Carnival and RCI than other cruise lines in my recent cruising history. This goes for both dinner and after.:(
Smitty24 Posted March 6, 2007 #17 Share Posted March 6, 2007 I'm fortunate in that I love my formal stuff so I just stay in them. No extra packing for me! If my feet hurt, I just kick off my heels. I've even thrown on flip flops under a gown..no one can really see.
janabug Posted March 6, 2007 #18 Share Posted March 6, 2007 We usually head up to MUTS, so formal wear is not very comfortable in a lounge chair.
k.hill Posted March 6, 2007 #19 Share Posted March 6, 2007 Depends on my mood, and how comfy my dress is. If dress is tight, with lots of elastic and mechanics keeping me thin and pretty in it - I'm out of that sucker within 15 minutes of dinner, less if we do formal pics before. Also, I am usually freezing by patootie off in the main parts of the ship, so I change back into capris or shorts (sometimes a sundress) and go back out. There are usually so many people in so many different things that I don't worry. We have hung out w/ friends that were still in their formalware with us back in our shorts - nobody gave a hoot. HighlandCruzer Posted March 7, 2007 #20 Share Posted March 7, 2007 I always change after dinner into clothes I dub my "club outfit" Most of the nightclubs I go to are always "dress to impress," meaning no shorts, torn jeans, hats, jerseys, or sneakers. I would feel too dressed up dancing in a tuxedo on formal dinner nights, and won't feel dressed up enough during casual dinner nights. Style is what you make of it, if you're worried about trying to blend in, then be aware of your surroundings and change clothes when the situation calls. Nightclubs offer a great chance to stand out and be noticed, so try to take advantage of it. Have a great cruise!

hisdawn Posted March 8, 2007 #24 Share Posted March 8, 2007 I love formal nights, all decked out in my formal gown, champagne w/ dinner, standing next to my handsome hubby in his tuxedo at the black jack table...it's such a romantic hot fantasy! We love the whole evening, strolling in and out of the lounges, casino, just letting him feel like he's showing me off (he is such a great guy and always makes me feel like the prettiest one there) and I love seeing how much he enjoys his "James Bond" look! For us, it's such a romantic, classy evening! Enjoy whatever makes YOU feel pretty and comfortable! For me, it will be a romantic JB evening! Smitty24 Posted March 8, 2007 #25 Share Posted March 8, 2007 I love that someone else calls it the James Bond look! My bf is actually going to make me take a 'Bond' picture. Him adjusting his cuff links and me draped at his side. Granted, I'm not even close to a Bond Girl, but he always makes me feel like I am!:)
