Possible to get to a nice beach by ourselves?

We are going ziplining & cave tubing in Belize & have no interest in iguanas. We just want a nice beach to go to for a few hours. Which one is the best and how do we get there? Is it worth hiring a driver thru Boden Tours or just wing it with a taxi (in which case how do we get back?) We will have 2 4 yr olds with us for what it is worth.

I did the cave tubing last fall. A taxi is out of the question to the cave as it is close to a forty-five minute drive out of the city to the park. You then have to walk through the rain forest with an inner tube and a light. The river brings you nearly back to the drop off point. There is a clean rest/change room. Bring your own water shoes, although you can rent a pair. On the way back we stopped at a restaurant for a meal which was included in the tour which we found ourselves. Remember that this is a long tender ride off the ship to the pier. The bottom line is that we would not have had time to go to a beach for a couple of hours. We did a little shopping near the pier and then got back to the tender. All the best.

We will try to take a cab. http://www.roatanisland.net/tourist_tips.htm

Why can't Roatan be like the other ports with simple cab transportation. I haven't been there yet but I am apprehensive even before I step onshore.

So did you also take a boat to the cay? Or is this beach right on the coast of Roatan?

This beach is right down the raod grab a taxi for 5 bucks and they will drop you off there. There is a charge to get into the beach but well worth it. Whatever you want to do there they will assist you. Also a place for kids to look at marine life!!!!

I live here...

There are a few beaches on Roatan worth visiting...

West Bay is the best known, and one of the best in the Caribbean...

It's all natural, and there are lots of resorts, so finding drink and food options is easy..

Tabyana Beach Resort (which is a ship excursion) is on West Bay beach..

West End has a beach at Half Moon Bay, but the place is crowded on cruiseship day, as West End has the most shops. bars and restaurants....the beach is only average but the snorkeling is similar to West Bay beach.

Coral Cay is a man-made beach with lots of facilities (showers, bathrooms and chaise loungers), designed for cruisers. There is also good snorkeling there too, along with a band and a restaurant.

All beaches require transportation which you really should book ahead of time..

If all you want is a scheduled pick up and drop off time at ONE destination then request that (or book a scooter/motorcycle) from those that offer those services (****).... However, if you want to "flavour" more than one place, then book an Island Tour, where you have transportation for the entire day..
