Hi, Doris.....I guess, in my first post, I should have noted that my wife and I will be doing the back-to-back!

Amazingly, however, I was born in Elizabeth, and, spent my first 28 years there......in the "port" section.

So, you don't want me to share your cabin??????? just kidding. If you know or hear of anyone who wants to do the b 2 b, please keep me in mind. Also are you aware if you book it to through the same TA that airfare is 1/2 through RCCL. But if one is a group booking, that info does not apply.

I left Elizabeth in 1952.

Thanks for the reply.

AAAnthony-

Leo & Monica (now living in Dumont, N.J.!), Stanley and myself (Jim), will be sailing on the Barcelona to Istanbul segment. We're trying to talk others into joining us, but a 14 day cruise is a big commitment. We're not retired yet, being 40 somethings.

Hope to hear from you-

Jim

Hi, Jim.....glad to see someone to exchange a few posts over the next eight months. My wife and I sailed the Pacific Princess (new) last year, also a former REN ship, and, we loved the ships size and layout. So, I booked the T/A when it first opened for bookings, and, then waited about two months until they announced the Med. schedules, and booked that one too, with the same cabin. We really love the sea days on the T/A's......this will be our 6th.

BTW.....we live about 5 miles northwest from Dumont, in Westwood.

AAanthony-

Believe it or not, the very day after I posted on this board, Leo (from Dumont) got word that AT&T was laying him off. This put all of our vacation plans on hold.

He and Monica are, of course, cancelling.

As of today, however, we decided that we're going to go anyway!

We are now available for chatting, discussing, debating, conversing, gabbing, chewing things over and enjoying pithy dialogues!

There are so many variables to consider. For Instance, are you guys flying home right after the cruise, or spending some time in Istanbul?

Best-

Jim & Stan

Hi, guys, haven't thought too much about it....we usually like to go home from a cruise, especially since this one will be 31 days, but, having spent a day-and-a-half in Istanbul back in the '70's, on a cruise, we'd probably like to spend two days, World "climate" permitting!

These aren't the most exciting questions, but:

1.) Are you taking travel insurance? If so, which company? Confidentially, we're hoping to find a policy that covers cessation of services in case (God Forbid) something Renaissance-ish developes.

2.) We've been reading about the "Passenger Information Forms" that Oceania insists that each client complete and return before any documents are issued.

How early in the process will we get them?

On the more chatty side:o , we're in 8038............are we nieghbors?

Thanks for your help-

Jim

Hi, Jim.......never done any type of travel insurance, so, can't comment.

You can also complete your personal information form online. Punch the "cruise guide" display at the bottom of the home page, and, then hit "personal information form". We're in B category, cabin # 6051.

Anthony-

You picked a great cabin location! Basically, you're one flight up the grand staircase, and just about 2/3rds back from the bow (the best riding section of the ship).

You say that you cruised before (and loved the sea days :D ), I'm assuming that this is your first Oceania Cruise as it is ours (Well, really it's your first AND second!).

We're counting on you and (hey, what IS Mrs. Anthonys' name?) giving us "the lowdown" when we board the ship. You know the kind of thing, best bartender, best restaurant, where the wine glasses are like thimbles!

On the other hand, it's going to be April fools day, you may decide to tease the newbies  LOL

As far as cessation of services. they all cover Oceania if you buy the insurance w/in 15 days of making your initial deposit..

You should receive your documents, air tickets if included and cruise stuff within 21 days of leaving for your cruise..

We were pleasnatly surprised that Oceania is this fast and that is so appreciated, so we can make all our at home arrangements..Now my latest thing is this form thing..

You know there has been so much yak about these forms.. I am truly amazed that Oceania and all the other cruise lines for that matter do not notify their clients who are buying their cruises that this is THE form that you must have at their office before they will send you your final documents..

- we have been on so many cruises and come to think of it , not one of them ever in advance notified us that we needed to fill in the form to receive our documents.. so this in my opinion . for what it's worth , is a total flaw in the whole cruise industry.

We should not have to worry after paying that out Travel agent forgot to send the form..at least one should know that form is coming.. this had happened to us many times until we found out that that form means tickets or none.. that is terrible..

If, we the consumer knew that they were required to do this form, we would keep asking for it, until we knew that it was sent in..so a confirmation list - standard in their industry might be great .. to our TA friends, have any such thing?

I sell real estate..I send my clients a weekly list of what is needed and what is in and what we need to close the deal.. maybe we need such a list from out TA friends...or perhaps the cruise lines once they take our money for deposits should send letter to people who book that says something like.. thank you for booking our ship..please be aware that you must fill out this form that gives us all your info ( name /address/emergency contact/passport number/ how you are going to reach and leave the ship etc. before we will release your air and cruise tickets...

it is amazing that no line does this..........

We were researching shore excursions , and, we heard very good things about Alain at Dream Tours (for our day in Monico).

They use a Mercedes air conditioned mini van, and, it holds up to eight passengers.

They would pick us up at the ship, bring us to St. Paul de Venice, the Promenade Anglais and the Flower Market in Nice, and then back to Monaco for the Princes Palace, the Cathedral, the Golden Square, and then the Casino.

If we would like, we could tour a perfume factory and/or the beach

The price is 130 Euros per person for two, 120 if we have 4 people, 110 if we get 6 people, 100 if we get 8 people.

We weren't so concerned about saving money, as we are about knowing others on the tour. A friendly face is a good thing!

If you and the wife think you might be interested, I can send you more details.

You can reach us at fixeruppers@MSN.com ,or, through these boards.

Hey Sparky!

Great to hear from another fellow cruiser! We're on the 4/1 sailing with you (There are 4 of us again, Stan and I, and his "seventy-something" parents (Kay & Ed).

We're spending an extra 2 days in Istanbul (through Oceania).

By the way, did you know that (also through Oceania), there is a discussion group targeted specifically at our cruise? Check it out at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Oceania_Insignia_4-1-2005/ .

If twenty people from our cruise register with Oceania, they'll give us a cocktail party!

Hope to see you over there!

Best-

Jim

P.S. I hope all is well with AAAnthony (who started this thread) I haven't heard from him in weeks!
