On-board Mixers -- Smuggler's Punch

I hate to be a "Glass half empty" kind of gal, but I do have a real concern regarding many of these recipes. The airlines are now issuing a 50 lb weight limit. Bottles of booze and soda weigh a lot. Any suggestions?

Margery, we are very lucky because we live just about 20 minutes from the port in Manhattan, so most of our cruises are from here. We do plan one "get away from NJ winter sludge" every year so we have to fly. Leave room in your suitcase and your carry on (for wine which many cruise lines will allow you one bottle/pp carry on) If you're flying in the day before, ask on the board for places where you can buy booze near your hotel. If you're flying in the day of there are sometimes places near the ship terminal you can pick up some booze. Pack some big sheets of bubble wrap and some plastic bags (don't weigh anything) and do your wrapping before you board the ship. If time is a constraint, you could always buy the booze at the airport duty free shops and pack everything up on the changing table in the ladie's room! ;) :D

Always gives me the heebie jeebies and creeps when I find out someone is flying in day of the cruise in the winter! Margery, best bet: go to East Coast Departure forum and ask there. I am sure you'll get some good information. Enjoy your planning!

Flight leaves NY at 8 AM and arrives in Tampa at 10 AM. I just did not want the added expense of a night at a hotel. Thus my packing my own booze!

We did get a balcony and are doing fun "expensive" excursions at each port. Figured we should draw the line somewhere. Hope we don't regret it.

Yummy !! I hope on the Miracle I will be able to make this nxt Monday

for the first time !!! ( providing they have fruit punch again)

thanks for the thread !

I made a bunch when I was on her back in July. Hoping they have fruit punch for ya, but if not, you can make a daquiri type drink with lemonade alone. Quite good with rum by itself. :)

Cheers!

1st suggestion Party Naked:D

2nd, saw on another board, pack your suitcase, put it inside next size larger empty suitcase, after flight you have an extra empty suitcase that you can put supplies in.

I would definitely suggest holding off on purchases of the heavy stuff like soda and beer until you get to your destination. Even if you are using a car service, it will be cheaper to have them stop than it would to pay the extra weight fees.

As far as booze, a liter weighs less than 2.5 lbs (minus the glass), so buy your booze in plastic bottles and pack them carefully in zip-locks and bubble wrap and you should be fine, weight wise.

ETA: Plus rule #1 above!!!

Any without the fruit punch now not being served?

I call it "Shipwrecked."

Equal parts

Malibu Coconut Rum

Lemonade

add in a splash of sprite for zest.

You won't even know you're getting drunk.

Sounds good!

You can mix just about anything with lemonade.

Try Tequila and Lemonade, with a couple of lime wedges for a surprisingly good margarita!

Dark rum is also very good. Don't forget, you can get pass o guava juice in the morning. Just keep it in your bubba keg until drinking time ;)

Vodka and lemonade works too. Add grenadine for a pink panther.

I know that the fruit punch is no longer available on the ships but was wondering if anyone has tried the Crystal Light Fruit Punch ~ is it similar in taste? I figure if it is, then it would be easy enough to bring a whole box of those mixers.

I'm putting that on my grocery list to try before my cruise :D

Ok - now I know what to do with this can of Spam I have in my cupboard. (DH bought it), but I have to say this does not sound appetizing:eek:

I have used those Crystal Light packets and they are really good. My favorite is the lemonade. Just be careful, because the drink will be a little stronger with a calorie free mixer.:p

Yes, those are pretty good, and travel well. Here's what I like: Citron Vodka, lemonade, and a little bit of the Crystal Light fruit punch (already mixed with water)... just enough to add some flavor and color but not make it overbearing. Add lime wedge, too.

No, you are right. Just bringing a little levity into the thread. ;) :D

I ordered 4 grapfruit juices at all hours of the day and night....:D

Oh, that is excellent! Adding vodka and grapefruit to my list of onboard smuggler's cocktails :)

Crystal Light Pink Lemonade and Bacardi Watermelon Rum is pretty darn good! It looks a little strange for a big guy to be carrying a pink drink, however
