Car Rental company with Pier drop-off

We are spending 3 days in Miami prior to our cruise and are hiring a car to get around. We have to drop the car off at the airport again. Does anybody know which of the Rental companies will take us from Miami International Airport to the Miami Pier and if there will be a fee for this service?

Thanks.

Can't help you with Miami, but we did the same out of Tampa. I would suggest calling the airport locations directly, rather than going through the toll-free nationwide numbers for the auto rental companies. We got incorrect info when we called the nationwide reservation number for Tampa auto rentals. The people working at the location will know for sure whether it's offered, how often it runs, etc.

There isnt any pier drop off of any agencies. Alamo has a free shuttle from the port of Miami.

You can go to any agency- drop it off at the airport after you drop off your luggage then take a cab back to the pier for 20 bucks.

Janetmarie,

With Alamo you drop the car off at their location on Federal Hwy (right outside the airport) and then they have a shuttle bus that takes you to the port.

When you get back the bus will be there. (they meet all incoming cruises) and then will take you back to the rental location.

We live in Fort Myers and do this all the time.

whoops ! I forgot to mention, we fly into Orlando, pick the car up there, head to Ft.Lauderdale and drop if off. When we return, we grab the shuttle to the car place, pick up and then head up to Orlando and drop off in Orlando. We've had great luck and good rates with Dollar.

I have rented cars several times for cruises out of Port Everglades(FLL).

There are no drop offs at the pier, but ALL rental companies run shuttle buses to the pier from their FLL lots, which are about 5 to 10 minutes away.

If you have more than 2 passengers and lots of luggage, you are better off to first drive to the pier, drop off passengers and luggage, leave them there and return the car to rental lot. Then take shuttle back to pier. allow one hour for that.

Hertz is the closest, but all are ok.

Often the renal car companies have shuttles to the pier in cities where cruises are. I would call Hertz, Avis etc. and just ask them if they have a shuttle to the cruise pier. I know normally they are free but you do tip the driver the $1-$2 per bag. The way we got around that as there were five us and tons of bags is hubby dropped most of us at the cruise peir then went and turned in the rental car. He only had his carry on bag. I thik he stipped tipped the guy like $5 but that was better then $20-30 for all the bags we had.
