I would have thrown the fool something to float on and then yell, "See ya on the way back!".

 

Moron should have just been left there. I still can't believe he survived...I guess drunks really are relaxed during accidents. :rolleyes:

He's lucky, very lucky to be alive. And at the same time, it is unfortunate that most of the civilized world will hear of his "exploits" and label him an idiot. His actions were not too smart, but as for him, well who knows. This was a whooper of a mistake that will hopefully teach him and others a good lesson.

Seen the rescue video this morning on the news. His god son said he fell face first off the balcony. He ignored the question when asked if the guy was drinking. He did have a collapsed lung when he was rescued

Unless I read wrong, they were only 30 miles out of Lauderdale, he must have done some fast guzzling.
As I read it, the ship was returning to Ft. Lauderdale, not leaving from. He was very lucky to have survived the fall/jump much less being in the water for 7-8 hours.

You can't blame Carnival. I was on the Glory last May and it's not a "party" ship at all. In fact, I've been on 4 Carnival cruises and only one was a little that way - I accidentally booked in early June - there was a large gruop of high school graduates onboard.

 

I used to live in Daytona Beach in the 80's. If you visited during spring break you would think it was the drunk capital of the world with people literally puking on the sidewalks and peeing in the bushes. NOT nice for those of us who lived there! If you came back in the middle of the summer you would think DB was the family captital - with tons of families with kids packing the beaches. Come back in the winter and you'd consider it a place of quiet and calm, somewhere to retire.

 

It's not the place or the ship or the cruise line.....it's the people who act out their stupidity!

 

And it is so sad - he will probably sue Carnival, they will probably settle out of court and we'll all pay a little more next year to cruise. <sigh>.

Royal Caribbean seems to have their share. Remember that big story about the newlyweds? The groom mysteriously disappeared and the bride was out drinking with others. Who knows how much booze was involved in that whole scenario.

 

I agree that drunks can be found anywhere. And, that includes the poshest hotels with the wealthiest people doing the imbibing.

 

This guy is definitely lucky to be alive, I saw this on the news this AM. I don't quite understand why most of these 'drunks overboard' stories come from Carnival ships. All of the other cruise lines are trying to limit alcohol consumption, isn't Carnvial doing the same thing?

Doesn't sound like this is any fault at all of the cruise line.

Your last two sentences sums it up well. I totally agree with you!

 

 

I think sometimes people take the phrase "Fun Ship" too literal. I think this could also happen on any cruise line. We started cruising on Carnival, before switching to Celebrity, RCCL and now Princess. I haven't notice a difference in the "class" of people on any of the lines. Drunks, rude, polite, and courteous people are found on all.

You certainly have convicted him and "hung him out to dry".

Sailing to/from Ft. Lauderdale

24 years old

Sailing with his children

Jumped through a window.

 

Laugh it up.

I think what bothered me the most was the way our local news reported it. They reported a passanger fell out of a cruise ship window. Now being on tons of cruises I can remember saying to my husband that it is impossible to fall out of a window, just by chance... Now that I read the clip I better understand what happened.

 

Just last week we were speaking with a young 20ish girl going on her first cruise and she said she was quite nervous... We spent some time making her feel comfortable that ships are safe. To me this is the shame of this situation.... I mean, the passanger going overboard made a bad decision and will have to pay for his err in judgement. Far be it from us to call him an idiot. I am sure right now he already knows that!! I do though hate to see these news broadcast hurt the indsutry or scare new cruisers away.

why is it a tragedy? the guy was found, apparently he will be o.k. And no, i'm not sure he was drunk, i'm also not sure he paid $500 for a flight to FLL, but i don't have to be, it's a message board, not a courtroom. we haven't convicted him, we are neither judge, nor jury, all we've done is made accusations!:p
