Well.....I certainly have learned a lot about coffee! Honestly, I'm a tea fan. Hot or iced. Being a southerner, I'm addicted to sweet tea.

My wife's from Canada and everytime we go visiting in Nova Scotia we always have to stop at Tim Hortons on the way home from the airport. Medium double double please!!!

yes, you could most definitely put a Tim's beside a Tim's and they would both make a profit ..... if the lineup was too big in one, you'd go to the other. it's just one of those Canadian things. dough nuts! it's all about the Tim-bits :rolleyes:

hopefully this is okay - had to post - makes me laugh every year when 'roll up the rim' is on ... :)

 

The following is the OFFICIAL RULES OF ENGAGEMENT for Tim Horton's.

Please feel free to pass them along so that we can make the world a

better place.

 

1) When you enter a Tim Hortons and see a line to one side of the

restaurant that DOES NOT mean that you can start another line on the

other side. PENALTY: TOO MANY LINES. People guilty of this infraction

must buy coffee everyone in the original line.

 

2) If you cannot see the donut you want available in the display you

CANNOT ask for it since the server will then go into the back and

eventually return and tell you that - guess what - they don't have it!

PENALTY: DELAY OF GAME. People guilty of this infraction must return to

the end of the line.

 

3) The Drive-Thru is for ordering coffee and donuts ONLY. If you need

to order a sandwich or soup get out of your car and go inside you lazy

slob! It takes too long and they'll probably get your order wrong any

ways so save some greenhouse emissions and remember - NO ORDERING FOOD

IN THE DRIVE-THRU! PENALTY: OVER ORDERING. People guilty of this

infraction will have their tires deflated on the spot.

 

4) Cleaning of the Hot Chocolate and Flavoured Coffee machines is

FORBIDDEN during times where there are actually customers in the store.

What kind of

business takes a product off-line in the middle of the day?! PENALTY:

UNNECESSARY CLEANLINESS. Staff guilty of this infraction will be forced

to eat hot, spicy food, then placed in restraints just out of the reach

of a nice cool glass of water for a hour.

 

5) Placing the lids on the "to-go" cups so that the drink opening lines

up with the crease in the cup is a crime against humanity since it has

the same effect as gag dribble-cups. Plus, exactly how hard is it to

miss that crease when placing the lid on any ways? Yet it seems to

happen more than 50% of the time. PENALTY: ILLEGAL LID ON THE CREASE.

Staff guilty of this must floss with barbed wire for a week.

 

6) Franchise owners who open up a store with a Drive-Thru that can't

handle at least ten cars in line are a traffic menace. Caffeine

addiction is a scary thing that will cause people to stop dead on busy

streets just to keep a position in line at the Drive-Thru. PENALTY:

INTERFERENCE. Owners guilty of this infraction will be forced to order

their meals via the empty Wendy's Drive-Thru next door for a month.

 

7) Going on a coffee run to Tim's for five or more people is a

non-starter. Firstly, you'll never remember what everyone ordered

correctly. Secondly, you don't have a hope in hell of carrying that

stuff back out to your car. Lastly, it will take too long!!! That nice

person behind you in line was under the impression that you were just

going to order your coffee and go. BUT NO, you have to take 5-10

minutes

of our lives while your botch the order then juggle the cups back to

your vehicle. Get some backbone - force others to come with you. No

more than two orders per person thank you!

PENALTY: OVER TWO MINUTE WARNING. People guilty of this infraction

will be forced to drink ALL of the coffee they have ordered and eat ALL

the food. Doing this same infraction via the Drive-Thru = public

flogging.

 

8) During Roll-Up-The-Rim-To-Win time all cups left unattended and

unrolled for more than one minute are free game to anyone else. Since

we know that all the really good prizes are only meant for people in

Ontario we've only got a limited shot at anything decent so watch your

cups! PENALTY: INELIGIBLE ROLLER. People guilty of this infraction

must forfeit any prizes won past or present to the new roller.

 

9) Staff who fail to recognize that you are a creature of habit and

order the same thing everyday for over a year at the same Tim Horton's

and still meet you with blank stares and an indifferent "What can I get

you?" are inflicting an inhuman mental torture. Isn't that what the

commercials are all about? Where are the smiles and a hearty "The

usual, Bob?" PENALTY: INCOMPLETE RECOGNITION. Staff guilty of this

infraction must be subjected to proof of identify and a strip search

every time they try to pick up their pay check.

 

...and the final rule of engagement.

 

10) Showing up at you son/daughters hockey game with a coffee from

another outlet than Tim Horton's is VERBOTEN! What are you - some kind

of troublemaker? Don't you know the way we do things around here?

PENALTY: ILLEGAL COFFEE. People guilty of this must clean the ice with

their tongues between periods.

It is a Canadian restaurant chain, I think it is closer to a Denny's. I don't think there are any in the US.

Yep, in R.I. too.

 

There was a big publicity buildup: "15 million Canadians..", TV, radio, print ads, etc. I was excited because I'm not a big fan of Dunkin' Donuts (too weak!) and I was hoping this place would be better.

 

Then one finally opened up in my area and the coffee tasted like it had been filtered through a used cat box. I tried it on 2 occasions, just to give them a bit of a fair shake.

 

Waited for another one to open up nearby and when it did their coffee wasn't unpleasant like the first place, but it was even weaker than Dunkin' Donuts.

 

So maybe they need to send some real Canadians down here to show us idjit Americans how to properly brew this stuff?

 

I wouldn't care, but I really like their donuts & Timbits! I just need a proper cup of coffee to wash them down.

 

Send Canadians! NOW! :D

Oh my gosh, I grew up in Stamford and was raised on Bess Eaton donuts. Mind you that was over 40 years ago. I sure do miss those donuts. All we have here in the south are biscuits and Krispy Kreme donuts! What I wouldn't do for a sprinkled donut right now.

Starbucks capuccino's are good (can't say for anything else) and you really notice the difference when you go back to Timmy's after Starbucks, but in all reality, going to Starbucks everyday is like having a smokers bank account go down the drain b/c its so expensive.

 

 

From what I understand, smokes don't cost $10.00/pack anywhere else but here, eh. The Americans are ruining their health for a far more reasonable price than we are...:D Quitting would finance at least one cruise per year - powerfully pursuasive!

 

JMO, but I don't like Starbucks or Tim Hortons (please don't come and confiscate my Canadian passport:o ) My favorite coffee is Seattle's Best (which we get at Mac's in Western Canada). It's great onboard and absolutely NOT THE SAME as the coffee RCCL serves elsewhere throughout the ships. Just too bad you can't get it from room service. Very tricky carrying 5 cups of it back to the balcony from the cafe each morning...

Actually it only took me two mornings and a couple of hideous scaulds to hit upon this idea:

 

1. Order a large carafe of coffee from room service.

2. IMMEDIATELY dump contents down the sink (it would probably back up the heads - that's another thread isn't it:D ).

3. Take empty carafe to Cafe Promenade and fill 'er up.

4. Make sure you stash said carafe in the closet for the balance of the cruise in order to avoid repeating step 1.

My husband is in management at the only USA Tim Horton's coffee roasting plant. There are over 3000 stores in Canada, and about 300 in the USA. The roast of the coffee is milder than Seattle's best and Starbucks (who are referred to as "burned" in the Tim's roasting plants!). Anyone who prefers darker roast/bitter coffee like Starbucks and Seattle's would not find Tim's appealing. The good news is, there is room in the market for everyone's tastes!

 

As for the comment about never having a fresh pot of Tim's -- the stores NEVER keep a pot longer than 20 minutes. If you find a store that does otherwise, report them to corporate! They are VERY serious about their quality!

We love Tim Hortons (being Canadian we drink it all the time!!!), and we also really enjoy Seattles Best. Found it a smooth coffee, very good, just as addictive. BTW, we hate Starbucks, too coarse. So true about Tims being on every corner, always busy. We actually had a Krispy Cream that opened in the area it closed within the year.... guess it couldn't keep up with Tims (coffee was terrible).

Tim Horton's is a coffee shop chain with most of their stores in Canada and a few in the United States. I don't drink coffee, so I cannot comment on the taste compared to others. Up until recently, Tim Horton's was owned by Wendy's. Wendy's recently spun them off and now my shares in TIm Horton's is worth more than the shares I have in Wendy's.

Tim Hortons is a canadian coffee chain and is sooooo not like Starbucks. Tim's is more like a Dunkin Donuts with yesterday's coffee. I found it very watered down and never had a fresh cup. I really missed my Dunkins when I have traveled in Canada. As far as a coffee condow, your guess is probably better than mine.:eek: :D

always ushers in spring. My friend and colleague won an IPOD Nano today !! I've won several coffees and a couple "beignes" - donuts....not to be called beige donuts ;-(

 

Nothing like it for sure. Your hubby will never find a cup as good on the ship, but I found the coffee in the dining room was probably the best.
