so what does happen if a cruise is cancelled or the cruise before yours is delayed and you dont have ins. ? they will rebook you wont they ?

If your cruise is cancelled they will give you your money back. Without insurance, you are out the airfare and you have to pay for hotel, air back early, etc. If the one before yours is delayed, you just have to pick up the tab for the hotel, etc. until yours leaves. Many times they will offer a credit in these cases. Get the insurance. Why anyone would travel out of the country without it is beyond me.

Well Sorry guys, I don't seem to have problems loading up on other computers. Ive also had this slide show up for almost 5 months and this is the first time it has become an issue.

Since everybody seems to want to sell you insurance, shebring, let me take a contrary position. What happens if there is a hurricane affecting your cruise? If the itinerary is changed to avoid a hurricane, the insurance pays nothing. If your cruise is cancelled, you get a refund and the insurance pays nothing. You don't have to worry about air fare since you drive to the port. Unless you're a worry wart, you have nothing at risk here. You're better off skipping the insurance, driving down a day early, and getting on the ship in the morning. The only thing you could possibly worry about is medical care and evac if you become ill or are injured, which is little affected by the threat of hurricanes. How much risk you want to take regarding that is up to you.

I have not purchased insurance... if this DOES happen, how will I be affected?

I mean, have they ever canceled a cruise, or do they just changed the itenerary?

Thanks in Advance! :)

If you don't have insurance, get it! You can do so anytime before your ship sails. Will they cancel a cruise due to a hurricane? Only if the ship cannot get to the embarkation port, which is highly unlikely; delayed, maybe.

RichKinkade: Thank you for that. You are right though, we drive to the ports ... since most of them are our neighbors (Carolinas, Alabama, Florida)! :) We are not going to complain about a night or two in a hotel! :) We like arriving a day before hand...who doesn't mind an extra day of vacation!

I just want to clear one thing up

Is this true or false - If I do not have insurance, and a cruise is canceled - I will still get a refund - or at least the chance to go at a later date.

Thanks again y'all. I don't know what I would do without this board!

Last time I checked Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30.

Everyone should cancel their cruises and only sail from December to May!!

We all know how accurate Hurrican predictions are dont we? It is nothing more than a guessing game partially based on averages from previous years.

Thanks for the panic post though! :D

just what I was thinking; which is why we picked Dec. again...doesn't stop us from usually visiting WDW in June though (w/o trip insurance).

DH, navy man; said the carrier he was on would just out-run them; no biggie.

You should learn. You look like a natural. I guess it is the slide show hanging up the loading I didn't realize it was only happening when you had a post in the thread:(

If everyone paid much attention to Tropical forecasts no one would ever cruise during those months. I on the other hand respect those predictions but that is just what they are. kinda like the local weather man telling you it's going to rain on saturday so don't make outdoor plans......hummmm well if that was the case many a barbaque would be canceled on a bright sunny day. Bottom line is be aware that a tropical system can spin up at any given time and trust in the cruise line to make the right choices which they do.:D

I still prefer to cruise in October and will continue to do so.......just my $.02 worth.

This is our first cruise and we picked September mainly because it was cheaper. I trust the captain and figure like the people have said "if you get an extra day or two at sea it is free!!"

Now to the lady who has the slide show and other fun stuff i saw, great work! Love it! Do you have a myspace page? If not you need to get one I love my page and change it often. By the way I live in Ga also. Where at in Ga are you from? :)

A bunch of folks from ENGLAND predict a busy Hurricane season....including FOUR major storms...

a little closer to home, William Gray, who is the most accurate forecaster (yeah, it does seem strange a guy from Colorado College is so knowledgable of hurricanes) has predicted up to 14 named storms, with seven reaching Hurricane status, and only three considered intense.

And, remember a hurricane could be anywhere from Guatamala to New England....

If you are afraid of those odds...I do suggest you stay away from the Casino.

I am starting to look for a cruise in October...should be a nice time to go.

I have a question..... if a cruise itinerary is changed because of a storm, do you have the option of declining the cruise and getting your money back? What if you don't want to "cruise to nowhere"? Or is it just tough luck? BTW, I'm cruising to Bahamas in Sept., not worried at all, but I would like to be able to change my plans at the last minute if the need arises.

Shebring, cruise lines almost never cancel cruises. If they do, they refund your money eventually (regardless of whether or not you purchase insurance) and sometimes offer discounts on some future cruises, which you may or may not be able to use. Cruise lines have in the past, if they completely change an itinerary (Nova Scotia instead of Bermuda -it's happened) offered refunds to those who choose not to sail, although it is by no means certain that they will do so in the future or have any legal obligation to do so. Minor itinerary changes (a skipped port, for instance) generally only result in very small, if any, onboard credits, with no option of cancelling and requesting a refund.
