Greetings Vancouverite!

IMHO, the best cruise is the one that is sailing an itinerary that you find to be interesting, on dates that work with your schedule, at a price that you can afford.

If you are really concerned, just know that most mainstream ships attract a wide variety of passengers (what we call "pax" on these boards) and so no matter what you choose, you will not stick out like a sore thumb. Still, if you are looking for a more "mature" crowd you probably want to choose a longer cruise (10 days or more), especially one that sails when younger kids are not on summer break and when college students are not on spring break.

Happy sailing!

Paul

I've done a single share and a solo cruise on Hal, enjoyed them both immensely. They had quite a few get togethers for solos, and I went to 2 or 3 on my last Westerdam cruise, met some really nice people.

Trying Carnival this time, could not find anything near the price on Hal, though I am still checking........

Hi,

I'm in my 60's and wondering what the best cruise line is for cruising solo at my age.

Thanks! ;)

Maybe you should consider a singles group cruise?

They're truly NOT all about young kids hooking up. there are many more over 50 solo cruisers. We;re not allowed to post agency names here, but do a google search for Singles Cruises and go with *******. There are sometimes 'over 50/60' group cruises. I'm 53 and have had a wonderful time... there's something about cruising that transcends age barriers! Seriously!

P.S. Let me know if you got this way! I know you'd love it!!!!!

I will be 61 in August and have gone solo (even though I'm married) for 4 out of the last 6 cruises I've taken... Just got a fantastic 7-day balcony on AOS the end of April, excellent itinerary. Can't wait to go. Naps when I want them, casino when I want to, no dogs begging at the table, no nothing, but what I want and I'm not sure what that will be. If I don't have a good time it's my own fault. Hoping to meet others at Meet and Mingle. As RCCL's slogan goes...."GET OUT THERE".

I've wondered about singles cruises and am happy to see that there are singles cruises for those of us over 50. Thx Nancy for posting your pictures.

I live/work in a university town and do not want to cruise with the college crowd during my vacation. Hopefully as more of us cruise there will be more choice in itinerary--I'm just not into hot weather cruises.

I'll try the Google thing and see what I can find. I know of one singles cruise group but they are a much younger group.

Thanks, Paul.

I was really hoping for the name of the best cruise line for older woman rather than itinerary, price, etc.

Hi Vancouverite:

I believe Patty was referring to "Adventure of the Seas" when she wrote AOS. As for AOL, that would be an internet company, America-On-Line. ;)

Cheers!

Paul

P.S. Looks like Bev hasn't had a chance to answer, but HAL stands for Holland America Line.

Oh Paul ... you are going to think I'm such a nit-wit - what is Adventure of the Seas - sounds more like a ship than a cruise line !

Yikes, although I'm very computer literate, I can barely figure out my way around this website.

The Adventure Of The Seas is a RCCL ship, a very large one but not their biggest anymore. Last time I checked she was doing Southern Carib out of San Juan. It can be expensive to fly to San Juan so keep that in mind.

Hi Vancouverite: No, don't worry, I won't think any such thing. As Vince explained, Adventure of the Seas is the name of a specific Royal Caribbean ship. By the way, most people refer to Royal Caribbean as RCCL, which is short for "Royal Caribbean Cruise Line" although some, like me, use RCI, which stands for "Royal Caribbean International" the line's technically correct name.

Don't worry about having questions. This board does have its own lingo. But I have found that there is a lot of great information for new cruisers on some of the other threads. You might want to check out the "First time cruisers" thread, for instance. Also, there is a "search" option on the menu bar that allows you to search for information others have posted. Sometimes older posts can really help you get an answer to a question.

I hope this helps! :)

I got a fairly good rate for my air from Philadelphia to San Juan, at least I'm happy with it...$386 r/t. I suppose I could have gotten it for a lot cheaper possibly, but I am always a late booker because I get ants in my pants if I have to wait more than 60 days for my cruise. This will be my first balcony and all say you get hooked. We shall see. Just looking forward to letting the door to the balcony open and the breezes into my room.

Paul>>>Have a wonderful transatlantic! Hopefully, I will be able to do that one next year. We'll see.
