Questions on Carnival Conquest Decor

I'm new here so please bear with me.

I've read somewhere that the some of the art works on the Carnival Conquest are French impressionist and do portrait nudity. Is it true ? I have a small child and was just wondering if it is appropriate for her to see. Thank you for all of your help. :)

We sailed the Conquest 7/19/04. I had read here or elsewhere that one poster's son would announce as their elevator landed on a particular floor, "floor x-naked lady!" The reference was to a painting on that particular floor near the glass elevators.

I feel that I am quite alert to such displays of the feminine form. I totally missed this. I never saw anything close to it in sculpture or canvas. Maybe had I been looking, I may have found it. Truth be told, the ship is a fluid display of human behavior, shopping, and entertainment. It is not difficult to spend a week on ship and still miss alot of sights and activities.

I hope I have answered your question. In short, it is probably there. We just didn't notice. I am sure your daughter will not notice as well. However, your question as it was posed seems to seek opinions on whether it would be appropriate for your young daughter to view such things. Below are my feelings. If your questions have already been answered, please quit reading.

In my humble opinion, nudity is not as harmful as your question would imply. Children are very curious by nature. You simply respond to her saying, "yes, that is a nude lady." If she wants a closer look, let her. She is a fellow human as well. We all have the same form in some variation. Tell her it is natural. Someone thought that particular body was pretty enough to capture and share.

Nudity for the sake of nudity is wrong when is exploited. An example of this is porn. It is cheap and meaningless.

Freedom from clothing is a liberating sensation. There is a time and place for it though. To the unliberated, it can be misleading. Nudity is not an invitation for coupling. Many people are just not comfortable with it.

Nudity is not sex. It is natural. We were born that way. The more you say it is wrong, the more curious she will be. Be casual about it, and allow her own self image the room to mold her feelings about the human body. Hollywood's images of our bodies aren't as forgiving as real life. We come in all shapes and sizes.

One final thing I have always found ironic. Parents take their kids to movies where murder is entertainment, yet a movie about making love is forbidden.

Yes the theme on Conquest is French Impressionist painters Renoir and Monet dining rooms, The Degas Lounge and so on.

As a result there are some beautiful paintings all over the ship. To tell you the truth, as the above poster stated I never really noticed if there were nudes.

However if there are, we are talking about classical paintings and not Pamela Anderson and Paris Hilton posters.

POOH, if your daughter reacts as you say, she will look to you for your reaction. When my daughter -- then about age 6 -- saw nude paintings at a museum, she giggled and then probed me just like yours. She asled if that was a naked woman. I said, "Yes, isn't she beautiful?" We then got into the discussion about why an artist would paint someone naked.

I told her because God created the human body as one of the most beautiful things on this earth, and the artist was trying to show how beautiful it was back to God and everyone else. She seemed to like that. She still giggled, and so did I.

Gotta go along with the opinion of others so far.....the artwork is reflective of famous artists. It is a great chance for a young one to see beautiful works of art and to see the human body portrayed in a beautiful way. I hope you will embrace the opportunity. Maybe even go to the library or a museum prior to the cruise and talk about the great artisits and their styles. That way it wouldn't be 'a shock' to see that type of art.

I know that in my son's schools they have The Masters Program where they learn about a different artist and their syle each month. It is enlightening and I am so glad he has the opportunity to learn these things in his school life.

Just so you can get an answer- there is a very large painting of a nude woman in the prone postion. The only way some one would be able to see this women would be to ride the glass elevators in the main atrium. There is an enormous mural painted on the wall opposite the elevators. The mural is extravagant but in order to have a prefect, unobstructed view of this woman luck would have to find you in the right elevator stopping at the right floor, otherwise you would breeze by it pretty quickly.

I just off the conquest a couple of weeks ago and it was fabulous (the cruise).

There were a few "nudes" but one that stands out. Actually, my wife kept pointing it out. The wall in the atrium opposite the glass elevators is a collage mural. About the 5th level is a nude woman. Most people don't even see or notice it.

Don't let that detract from this beautiful boat.
