Curfew

Recommended Posts

I think this is why the curfew is so frustrating to people. If enforcement of it were a given like such things as showing up for muster drill' date=' there wouldn't be the "surprise" factor for those who travel during the holidays. I too would be disappointed if my friend came back from a cruise and said one thing, and when I got on the ship things were significantly different.[/quote']

Being dissappointed because I haven´t been able to sneak around the rules while others have:confused:  .

I´m sorry but is this the adult like behaviour we are talking about??

Why not play by the rules in first place and there´s no need to be dissapointed???

I agree it´s the same with the liquor smuggling and other topics.

I can´t understand why we can´t play by the rules and if one can´t - ok be it - I´m not the one to enforce it. However I´m surprised how people brag on the boards on how they broke the rules and then complain about the consequences if being caught.

If anyone chances to break the rules, ok be it but don´t brag about it and even more important don´t whine if it didn´t work out. You all knew the rules beforehand and choose to sail anyway.

Just came back from a week on the Jewell of the Seas. We went with a group of High School Seniors most of them 18 a couple of them will be 18 within a month. RCL has adopted a strict under 18 curfew which if you are travelling with a 17 year old you should know about. At 1 O'Clock all teenagers are carded and the kids not 18 yet are sent back to their cabin (the one exception the group found out was in the Casino where it seems the curfew is not enforced at all). This of cousre encourages the group to either go to a single room which creates noise issues or hang out at the Casino (something the parents do not want). If you have a 17 year old who is travelling with 18 year old friends this is a major annoyance icon9.gif

I can't say that I agree with this curfew. You hit it right on the head. It makes the kids go back to their cabin and create more noise issues. I witnessed this first hand on the Crown Princess. The kids next to us had a curfew given by their parents, and they were so loud all night. If they're going to be loud, at least let them go up on deck where nobody will be.

I didn't see any evidence of this on the Mariner two weeks ago because there were young kids around the ship at 2am. They were well behaved, and there was plenty of security all around.

Honestly, let people enjoy their vacation that they paid good money for, as long as they are not being loud, annoying and belligerent. This is what security is for.

Which way did you smuggle? One way is a crime and the other is breaking a revenue enhancing rule :)

I pay good money for my cruise too. I don't want to have kids hanging out after 1AM. I will tell you if the kids were in the room next to me and making noise at 1AM, I would call security. I think too many parents feel it's their vacation so they do what they want, and the kids are in a different cabin and they can do what they want.

I wish RCI would enforce ALL rules. Many parents feel because their children are special or mature or well-behaved but under the age limits for things think there should be exceptions made for their kids. How does the cruise line decide that child a is mature, but child b isn't? Can you imagine the problems if they tried to do it?

I blame the parents mostly and you can see it on here all the time. Kids going to the specialty restaurant who are 6 months/weeks shy of being 13. But, he/she is mature. Follow the rules!!!You are setting bad examples for you kids. Why should they ever follow any rule? You are setting them up for trouble in the future. Off my soapbox now. (I also believe the rules re no booze etc. should be followed.)

I disagree. People should be able to do what they want without the cruise line playing babysitter. As I said before, as long as the kids aren't being loud, annoying, belligerent or causing trouble. If they're well-behaved, how are they bothering you? I'll agree with a curfew for kids under 16, that's fair. But 18? Nah, not right. If people don't like seeing kids around the ship at night, then cruise on a smaller ship with less kids or a line geared more toward adults.

The OP was not complaining about a curfew for 18 year olds, it was for the ones under 18. Curfew was enforced for teens under 18!!!

Yes I know. I'm saying those who are 16 and 17 should not be limited. For kids 15 and under, yes, there should be a curfew.

If you don't like the rule, sail on a different cruise line!! It's their ships, their rules!

RCL has no way of judging a "good kid" from a "bad kid." The excuse "oh, well they are just hanging out and talking" doesn't fly either, because teens don't exactly act the same way when they're with 4 of their friends and their parents are nowhere in sight as they would if their parents were around.

So what´s the curfew for kids 16-18 in your state?

There isn't a curfew for kids in my state. Believe it or not, teen arrests are among the lowest in the country for CT. Very little vandalism and I rarely see kids loitering.. maybe it has to do with the amount of after school activities offered around here, I don't know.

I do know that when kids are given rules, they go out of their way to break them.

Where does it end? How about a mature "almost 16 year old" who hangs out with the 17 year olds? Do we now bend your new rule for 16-17 year olds to include someone's mature, well behaved, 15, almost 16 year old?

Last year, my son was 18 when we cruised on the Serenade. We signed the form, permitting him to drink. Well, guess what? RCI now changed that rule and he will not be permitted to drink on our Adventure cruise next year, when he'll be 20. Does he like it? NO, but it's RCI's rule now, and he knows he has to deal with it.

So kids are allowed to hang out in bars at 03:00am unsupervised in CT? Very interesting.

OK, well then I might see where you come from over here we have stricter rules and I see a reason for them as well as I can see a reason for them on the ship.

That's also the rule for all of the USA. Most cities and towns don't have a curfew (at least in my neck of the woods).

I'm just saying I don't agree with the curfew. Don't be so uptight people.

OK but that´s what I´m interested in. Are 16 year olds allowed to hang out in bars serving alcohol?

Because that´s what we are talking about on ships, bars and lounges serving alcohol. And that´s not a place a 16 or 17 year old should hang out unsupervised at 01:00am in my opinion regardless how well raised or not.

If I'm not mistaking, the curfew is for any public area. Not bars or lounges. Kids under 18 aren't allowed to sit at/in the bar anyway.

Neither.........it was tongue in cheek...........In 13 cruises.......I've tried my best to follow ALL the rules.:)

Just cause one doesn't agree with the curfew, doesn't mean it shouldn't be followed, even if one's child is almost 18.

Never once did I say it shouldn't be followed if it's the rule. You're putting words in my mouth. I said I don't agree with it and it shouldn't be in place. If I took one of my kids on a cruise where there was a curfew, would they follow it? You bet.

But the curfew has nothing to do with alcohol and bars. If it did, there would be a curfew 24 hours a day!

They just don't want kids to be rowdy (as what happened on the Crown Princess last August -- brownie fight -- but those kids were 20+). I see their reasoning for it, though I don't agree with it.
