Sourismom Posted April 9, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2007 Has anybody used a waterproof wallet for snorkling? I don't want to leave cruise card, cash, etc. sitting on the beach while swimming. Any tips on where to get a cheap one?
Lorij91 Posted April 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2007 Try a larger sporting goods/outdoor store in your area. They shouldn't be too expensive. We have a hard case with a fliptop that is large enough for id, seapasscard, money, etc. that hangs around the neck. Be sure and check the clasp or double tie it. On one of our snorkling trips, one lady almost lost hers when the clasp popped open. Luckily, someone from the boat spotted it bobbing along. Also, try not to get blue or green, hard to see in the water if it does come loose. Have Fun!

AZ Karaoke Girl Posted April 9, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2007 I bought mine on ebay. Good point about the blue & green colors. I hope I'm not sorry for buying this type. I got it for $6.95 ea + shipping at Shorts Marine & Discount Parts off ebay. They have larger sizes too.
reallyitsmema Posted April 9, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 9, 2007 I got the next size up of that at REI today for $12. It is designed to hold a flip phone too. It came with a lanyard and a caribiner. The one you got was $7 so the prices were the same.
sparky.mi Posted April 9, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 9, 2007 Check out the waterproofstore.com. I have gotten a few things on there to use next month. Also walmart has the hard cases I don't think they cost very much. Hope you find something. Have fun:)
buddyjo143 Posted April 9, 2007 #7 Share Posted April 9, 2007 http://www.thewaterproofstore.com/smallwallet.html We got the waterproof belt pack. It was big enough for DH to hold our passports, sign and sail cards and some cash. He wore it around his waist while we snorkeled with no problems. Sourismom Posted April 11, 2007 Author #8 Share Posted April 11, 2007 Thanks for the tips! Looks like I'll have to order one. I went to two Wal-Marts, Dick's Sporting Goods, Sports Authority and Target in town, and no dice. Sports Authority had one "waterproof" wallet, but it wasn't submersible.
AZ Karaoke Girl Posted April 11, 2007 #9 Share Posted April 11, 2007 Water resistant isn't waterproof. Make sure it is designed for swimming/snorkeling or it will leak. Be sure to test it before you leave too with unimportant papers.
CaptData Posted April 11, 2007 #10 Share Posted April 11, 2007 Here is the test I do. I printout a copy of my passport. I include that with my airmiles card (to represent room key) and some money ie a $5.00 bill and some change. I fill the bathtub with water. I put the stuff in the wallet andweight it down for ten minutes. Take it out and check. If no problems happen I sit there and drag it around the water for ten minutes. If no problems occur it is a good one. I bring an eleastic to put around the body of the wallet to ensure it does not pop open.
RacerGirl8 Posted April 12, 2007 #11 Share Posted April 12, 2007 I purchased mine at the Boaters World store. I have also seen them at Boscov's in the luggage department and most marina's sell them.
serval_girl Posted April 13, 2007 #12 Share Posted April 13, 2007 I found one at Dicks for $7. Its called WITZ keep it safe. You have to fold your passport to fit-but it will fit. Importantly-it FLOATS! Its blue-I might wrap it in day glo duck tape just to be safe. I tested in it-filled a pan of water and sloushed it around a bunch-and no leaks. Dicks also had slightly larger water/snorkel/scuba bags but they were out of the smallest size (which would have been perfect) but it was also more expensive ($12). Just to note-I had a heck of a time finding it in the store-they had it by the travel emergency kits. Hope this helps!
mochuck Posted April 14, 2007 #13 Share Posted April 14, 2007 You have to fold your passport to fit-but it will fit. Doesn't folding your passport damage it? Damaged passports can lead to huge delays at airports. Security / immigration scrutinise damaged passports very carefully. This is because most falsified passports are made to look damaged to mask the flaws.
