Rating Casino Players

I have never heard of this practice on X or RCCL and we play a good bit every cruise and every line. Not to mention chatter on these boards!

After reading a recent post and asking a bit, here is a post to ask everyone who cruises these lines....have I missed this opportunity along the way on all of our cruises to be rated???

I did not ever know this was a cruiseline practice and opportunity for cruisers to obtain perks toward rating players bets.

Thanks a bunch for the input!

Last April on Galaxy I played a lot of video poker. After about the 4th day the casino manager asked me if I minded being rated. I asked if that wouldn't be kind of tough without a card system. He said he knew I was playing $5/hand and he would keep up with how long I was there and he could make a good estimate. I gave him my name and address and about a week after the cruise I received a letter with a player's card for "id" when I sail on Celebrity again (this weekend!) And a note that the card would get me free drinks, tshirts, etc. Also he made me a nice offer for a discount on my next cruise (this weekend!). I don't remember how long you had to play black jack to get rated, but the average bet had to be $50.

Then in September on RCCL they had card readers on the machines and you could put your room key in and rack up points good for drinks, dinner in the specialty restaurant, tshirts, etc. No follow up letter with a discount, but I didn't play as much as I did on Galaxy.

That's all I know......

I was on the Century last week and there was a dude who put some serious money at risk and did not get a rating of any sort. No need to when you only have one gambling option.

Oh, Friday night the guy won $140,000 playing blackjack.

Can't help you with the rating but here's a good web site on cruise casinos which might give you some info. At least there is some good reading in it.

Since the casinos are their own profit center (not sure about now, but a few years back some of them were a separate company renting space from the cruise lines), they might consider that you have more than one gambling option if you choose another cruise line instead of Celebrity. For example, the cruise credit I was offered was only good on Celebrity and could not be transferred to RCL. Also, I'm not sure it's obvious as to who is being rated - but maybe he told you he wasn't. I can only say that I have a Blue Chip Club Casino Players Card in my wallet that I plan to be using next week......

Regarding rating system for slots and Video Poker: If you play slots and bet a minimum of $5 per hand and play for a specified amount of time (not sure how much time that is), Celebrity will rate your play and perhaps offer free drinks, shirts, etc., all the way up to discounts on future cruises. It is similar to being rated in Vegas except the perks aren't as good - but if you are going to be playing anyway, you may as well take advantage of anything they want to offer. I don't think their machines will take a player's card - so the rating appears to be based on how diligent the staff is in noticing how long you are there and how much you play. My suggestion is that you speak to the casino manager on your next cruise. Enjoy.

ocn, X may not have an "active" rating system for gambling, but they certainly do have ways of tracking passenger's play. There is a players card for X, but not one that you use in a machine, but you show it to the cashier cage manager whenever you take cash out on your sign and sail card. They do have a program for higher ranked gamblers that provide certain "perks" for those who gamble a higher amount either on tables or machines. They also have "gambling cruises" where they provide cabins and have tournaments. I know they had one of these events last January, but we couldn't go because it was a couple of weeks after we had already booked a cruise. They also have a "cash back" program for those who gamble higher amounts. We've also had the casino manager pick up the tab for dinner in the alternate restaurant and they do some cabin upgrades. So, it does pay to gamble on X.

WhenIsOurNextCruise, thanks for the info ! Wow... In that case, they can offer us a free cruise, for the time we spend at the slotmachines...:D. But seriously, last cruise we did on the Galaxy in june 2006, we were offered free drinks, several times, by a very friendly casino staff member, I'm sorry I forgot his name, I can only tell he was asian, very polite and modest. We're looking forward to meet him again, but I'm not sure if he's still on the Galaxy. O yeah, and we got a Celebrity t-shirt when hitting a jackpot (we ended up with 5 of them... :D). But I suppose that's for every jackpot-winner. During the 2 cruises before (Millennium and Galaxy, with a different staff), we also played a lot, but never received free drinks. So maybe it really depends on the diligence of the staff.

The BlueChip club (the X casino club) is by invitiation only. In theory, only if the casino supervisor or manager identifies you as a high roller or long time consistent player will they invite you.

The benefits are a lot better than the HAL programme - on HAL I got one free drink in 10 days - thanks for nothing! With the BlueChip club, you get free drinks whilst playing, tee-shirts and clothing, and depending on your play on the cruise, a cash casino credit for your next cruise - very very good.

I was chatting with one player who was offered $200 on board credit on his cruise based on his casino play from a previous voyage.

I do find that the programme is inconsistently adminstered. Out of 4 Celeb cruises, my partner and I have always used the casino, and even though my partner plays $50 / hand blackjack, we have never been invited.

On our last cruise on the Infinity from Valparaiso - Fort Lauderdale last month, we asked the casino supervisor if we could sign up for the club. His reply was "because the casino is not busy on this itinerary, we're being very tight with the invitiations and not giving any out this sailing". I thought this was a crap response - if someone qualifies, then they should be invited.... it's not our fault that the casino was quiet!

I believe you are absolutely right about the invitation. It was after they paid me off on a couple of royal flushes that they started noticing and invited me to get rated. BTW, the credit received towards our next Celebrity cruise was $1,500, which is why we are sailing on Celebrity this month instead of RCL.
