Help me convince him...

Those of you who have been there/done that, help me convince my dh to go to the supper club on our Glory cruise (he doesn't see the need to spend another $60 for food when you can eat in the dining room)

cruising is a event that takes us away from the 9to 5 days ( mine is 6to6) and a chance to revitalize oneself. By going to the supper club would be a nice extra to place in the memory of the wonderful cruise. Maybe you may want to surpise him and prepay or go to the purser desk and pay for the supper club when you first board. I finally was able to talk my dh on going and the experience did not live up to my expecation, I guess I was looking for a WOW factor and it just was not there, The experience was like going out to eat at home. I am gald we went as now the unknown factor is not there and neither is the desire.

Have a great cruise

I, too, was one of the "why do it " husbands. I finally gave in and every cruise since I am the one to rush to get the reservations. The food is great..but that is not the main reason I like the supper clubs. I like the quietness, the less hurried pace and the soft music playing. Tell him to give it a try. I'll bet next time you won't have to ask!

that's the way we feel. I wouldn't rate their supper clubs close to the palm, which is where we like to eat if we desire steak. For us, once was enough.

People do seem to rave about them tho. I suppose it's all where you live and what choices of places to eat you have at home.

But you won't know for sure, unless you try it :) Everyone has a different opinion, especially about food ;)

He's right.Why spend $60?

Save the $60 for a meal out at home.

I have two perspectives on this and they are definately contradictory in nature.

  1. Spend the money if you want, as they have different meals available, and as I understand it if you want you can sit in a two topper or as a group, if you have made friends on the ship.
  2. Save the dough, and splurge on the one tour you might not have taken.

Just the two different perspective on this. I only would look at the quality in the Dining Room, and the seat mates at the Table. If you like them, they are hospitible, and you are not looking for the Romantic private dinner then dining room it is.

He feels just like my wife does. And honestly... I can't see spending the money either.

However, there are plenty of people who cruise where they only eat at the Supper Club each night.

If your DH is into personalized service, you can tought that. Does he like to dance... you can tell him there is a dance floor you can enjoy.

Or you can tell him he can kiss romance goodby on the cruise if he doesn't go with you to the Supper Club and "enjoy it... damn-it!" ... :D

We tried it and my dh loved it so much he said it is a must now for every cruise. We pick one night and since we do a large table in the dining room it is nice to have a nice table for 2. We really enjoy it, only thing is on Rc it was only 20.00 pp. (and well worth it!!!!!!!!):D

we do not eat out at what we would consider a really nice resteraunt when at home. We like Outback. But when we cruise we like to take that $60.00 and eat at the Supper club. We have found that the steaks offered are a much higher quality than the dinning room. The evening is very nice. Generally that night is just for us no. No Casino, usually we will take in the show that night and then back to the room.

I liked having dinner at the supper club on the Liberty. We went with a group & it was a lot of fun. As far as added expense went. I did not stick with the fixed price menu. I had caviar as an appetizer & a bottle of Perrier Jouet Fleur Rose champagne with dinner. I think including the tip that dinner was close to $300. My wife wasn't happy, but hey we were on vacation.

Do a 'Search' here on Cruise Critic (perhaps on the name Nick and Nora's, which tends to get the best overall reviews), and then have him sit at the computer for a brief while to see what other people posted with their thoughts.

Some on this thread really aren't in the mood for the supper club dining experience, and are quite pleased with doing the regular dining room, or even the Lido buffet each evening. Everyone should choose what makes their vacation experience the most enjoyable. For my upcoming sailing next month, I'll be dining in the regular dining room only one of the six nights, and doing supper club the other five. It's just what I choose to do, as I'm personally a big fan of that dining experience. Obviously, it's not for everybody, but I hope your hubby will consider it for one evening. Have a great crsuie ~ Bon Voyage!!

I like power of persuasion. Tell him if he takes you to the supper club you'll return the favor...in the cabin...later that night! :D  What man would refuse?

On the other hand, if he saves the money, he might do you a favor in the cabin. What woman would refuse? LOL. Why do some women think they have all the power?

Hi BB

My DW and I did the Golden Fleece on the Legend last year. We throughly enjoyed the entire meal. The quiet calm of the restaurant is very relaxing and romantic. The food was fantastic certainly worth the extra $'s. We both had steaks and they were comparable to Mortons in Chicago or Smith and Willinskys N Y, Chicago and Las Vegas. The service was top notch as well. One thing we did not know was even if you do not have reservations in the supper club, you can go and have a drink at the supper club bar. Maybe you could take him there the first or second night so he could get a feel for the ambience. He may feel that the experience would be worth the extra $'s.

Good luck,

Keith

Sounds like a good idea but what if he decides he would rather NOT go...is there any kind of penalty for cancelling a reservation? I have heard that it is a must to make that reservation ASAP when you board.

We had never done the supper club on any of our cruises. Like your husband we felt that the $60 could be spent other ways. On the Carnival Spirit a couple of weeks ago we decided the day after my birthday that we would try the supper club. It was our 2nd formal night so we dressed up to go. Oh my gosh, the food was fantastic. We received exceptional service too plus they have a singer/band and a dance floor. Right as we ended our meal we heard the singer and we got up to dance. What a wonderful surprise (no it wasn't planned) when he sang the song that was sung at our wedding over 20 years ago.

My husband was so impressed with the supper club that he said from now on we need to go at least once during the cruise!!!!

So I agree, try it at least once. I don't think you will regret it.

We made our reservations the same day and didn't have problems getting a reservation for that night. They told us to plan on a minimum of 2 hours for the meal and that was about right. Had the most beautiful view of the water, but think I would ask next time to be seated by the dance floor if there was room.

Placement of the table of where you are seating may have a major impact on your experience. Ours was by the pathway where everyone was walking to wherever they were going. There was a see thru divider between the supper club and the walk way. If we were seated where there was a view of the water or a more romantic setting then we may have had a different opinion of supper club. It the whole package that one pays extra for.

I agree with DGP1111 -- it's not going to be meaningful for everyone. We enjoy it as a special treat a couple of times per cruise, because we enjoy the calmer, quieter atmosphere, the better food, the excellent service, the music and dancing. But I can certainly understand why someone else just wouldn't care about that, or would be perfectly happy without those extras. Hopefully, he'll be willing to give it a try just because you want to try it, it's vacation and it's only $60.00. On the other hand, if he's going to hate it, how much fun will you have anyway? :)

I've eaten in alternative restaurants, but I would rather spend the $60 on something other than food. With so much good food on the ship, why not spend it on an excursion or better yet, a piece of jewelry. :D

We just came off the Glory on 4/22. A group of four us went to the Emerald Room supper club on the Monday night. Trust me when I say that on that particular night, the food was NOT worth the extra money. Service and ambience were impeccable, but having eaten in numerous five-star restaurants over the last several years, we all felt that this one did not live up to our expectations. Knowing what we know now, we all would opt to stay in the dining room, and spend the extra $60.00 ashore:) . Just our opinion, so take it for what it's worth.
