massfriends Posted February 18, 2008 #476 Share Posted February 18, 2008 I have stayed in promenade room twice-deck 7 & deck 8 and had no problems with noise. The parade was noisy, but we were watching it so it did not matter. Does anyone know what ship will be replacing the Mariner in Port Canaveral?? If it will be replaced?? I'm assuming it will be. No announcement yet, rumor is a freedom class ship.

bigsteelerfan Posted February 18, 2008 #480 Share Posted February 18, 2008 Mass: Thanks for the info. The Mariner is such a nice ship. We have a child now so we are trying Disney this Oct. But we are already planning a cruise on RCI next year, but read that they are moving the Mariner to LA. So I was hoping they would replace it with a Freedom class ship. I hope the rumor is true. That would be so cool!!!!:D I called RCI Sat. morning and the cruise planner had no info as of yet. She was showing no dates past Feb. for week long cruises. logan1_2000 Posted February 21, 2008 #483 Share Posted February 21, 2008 I recently received a set of compasses from the Feb. 10th Western, through another thread, and it looks like neither Chops nor Portofino was open on embarkation night, and some nights it looked like only Portofino was open, but not Chops. Can anyone confirm or refute those observations? I'm hoping that I am reading those listings wrong, we love going to both Chops and Portofino and having some extra flexibility is important to us. Thanks in advance for anyone who has recently been on Mariner and can answer the questions for what is happening on Mariner, but obviously no need to say what is going on with other ships. I think part of that was that it was Valentine's Day week. If I remember correctly from Kitty's review, Chops was closed one night because of a wedding party had rented out the whole place. katiel53 Posted February 21, 2008 #485 Share Posted February 21, 2008 I think it could have been something like the wedding party taking the room for the night. We have sailed on Mariner 3 times and have never had a problem getting into Portofino or Chops. I think if there is a mystery dinner, then Portofino might be closed to others for the night or part of the night. We haven't tried to go that night (I think usually on a Tuesday) so it didn't matter to us. Enjoy Mariner. I can't wait until we board in October. Hopefully no weddings on our cruise doing the same thing (we like embarkation night--gets the cruise started right!)

The best place for Mojitos is Boleros on deck 4, just outside the casino
kittymom65 Posted February 22, 2008 #488 Share Posted February 22, 2008 As far as Chops and Portofino, I don't remember if they were open the first night. The murder mystery in Portofino was Tuesday, and Chops was closed Wednesday for a wedding party.:)
MzOhioLady Posted February 22, 2008 #489 Share Posted February 22, 2008 Hello Everyone I have a few questions, if you don't mind. Does the Mariner have both Chops Grille and Portofino's? How long does it take to get from Orlando to Port Canaveral? How much does it cost to get there by taxi/and or RCI shuttle, is there a major difference in the price? Is there a significant difference in the Mariner verses Freedom or Liberty of the Seas?
lake powell Posted February 22, 2008 #490 Share Posted February 22, 2008 Question on excursions, have any of you dealt with Kirk Sea Tours in Grand Cayman? We want to do the Snuba. But we also want to go to Stringray City. If we do Snuba through the ship (who uses Kirk also) we can't schedule Stingray also (overlap in timing). But if we go directly through Kirk, they have both tours. The problem is, I have been trying to get info. over the email from them and Im having trouble getting responses. They have responded once, but that's all, nothing to the new questions. Do you know if it's considered an International call from the US to Grand Cayman? Im also posting this on some other boards to see if they know some answers. Time is getting short and I want to get this excursion settled. Thanks, Lake Powell

How long does it take to get from Orlando to Port Canaveral? How much does it cost to get there by taxi/and or RCI shuttle, is there a major difference in the price? Is there a significant difference in the Mariner verses Freedom or Liberty of the Seas? Yes, it has both. Takes 45 minutes, generally. Sorry, I drive to the port, don't know taxi or shuttle costs--need help from the rest. Diff. between Mariner and Freedom class is covered elsewhere, but my thumbnail version is take Mariner, add a boxing ring, a flow rider, and extra length of, what is it, 100 feet, plus a commensurate number of additional staterooms --whats the capacity difference, 500? Both great ships. For me, Miami is farther than I want to drive and I detest dealing with that city's sea port and airport, and Port Canaveral is a very do-able 7 1/2 hours from Atlanta, so the choice was Mariner. Fort Lauderdale I have driven--just a bit too far for comfort in a single day's drive, and I'm trying to not need airfare in the budget. If you live somewhere where you have to fly no matter which ship or port you choose, bear in mind that port everglades is just a 10 minute cab ride from the FLL airport, so literally a $15 cab ride, maybe including the tip, so quick and easy. MzOhioLady Posted February 22, 2008 #492 Share Posted February 22, 2008 Logan - Thanks for your time and comments. That did help out. I do live in Cleveland, so airfare is something I cannot get around.
ewheelock Posted February 22, 2008 #493 Share Posted February 22, 2008 Logan1 (Logan is my grandson's name!) do you drive the day before? If so, what hotel do you stay at? I am driving the day before and I want to stay at a hotel that will let you leave your car there and get a shuttle to the port. I heard that parking would be $105.00 for the week at the port parking. I also live in N. Georgia and drive to PC the day before we sail. Country Inn & Suites and Radisson both let you park at their hotels and take a shuttle to the port. Both are nice hotels, the Country Inn is a little newer, and will usually have a rate a few dollars cheaper than the Radisson.
worthyfamily Posted February 24, 2008 #495 Share Posted February 24, 2008 Does anyone have pictures of interior stateroom closets and drawers? jdbmga Posted February 24, 2008 #496 Share Posted February 24, 2008 Is the wine tasting worth the $9.95? Since this is our first cruise we don't have the C&A coupon. On Day 2 there is one held in the DR and one in Vintages wine bar according to some recent cruise compasses I saw.

wheretonow? Posted February 24, 2008 #498 Share Posted February 24, 2008 Atty - we are on the sailing before you, we'll try to leave the ship in one piece :) Can you use the C&A coupon on the Vintages tasting? I'm thinking the tasting might be a good way to taste some of the Wine and Dine list before buying a package and ordering.

However Day 3/Tuesday of each week Portofino's held their Mystery Theater Dinner Show. em
powderqn Posted February 24, 2008 #500 Share Posted February 24, 2008 The C&A coupon can not be used for any of the wine tastings in Vintages; it can only be used at the one wine tasting in the dining room listed in the capers. The wine tasting in Vintages is definitely better and more personal (smaller group). Vintages also offers tasting flights you can do on your own. My favorite place....
