Is it safe to book a flight home at 11:15? How soon could we get off the ship and get to the Tampa airport? Are suite passengers allowed to get off first? TIAFAR.

Would never advise one way or the other. Can only give you our experience. We were in no hurry to get off the ship and waited for the "Last call all remaining passengers onboard must debark" That was a little before 10. We waited probably 1/2 hour after getting off for Alamo shuttle and we were at the airport about 11:10am. Self debarkers started getting off about 8 I think. Airport is not that far away.

update...After reading a lot of the recent member reviews, it looks like the self-disembarkation gets you off quite fast. Gotta give credit to Carnival for trying something new. I've never heard of that method before. It also helps that you can keep your bags in your room the last night. How many passengers would you say use this method? If a lot, then I would think the hallways and elevators could get quite jammed in the mornings.

The new disembarkation process is wonderful! I will say there were alot of people doing the self thing. Quite busy for shuttles and taxi's first thing. But I do believe they started that at 8 like the person before me said. We did not do the self disembark. The luggage tags they give you the night before have zone numbers on them. We were in zone 5 and the first group 1 thru 5 was called at 9:30. (not sure how they pick zones, we were on floor 8 so maybe they go top to bottom) When your zone is called you go down to floor 2 (where you got on) and go into the port warehouse thing where all the luggage is by ZONE NUMBER. VERY EASY! We got our luggage right away and straight thru customs. Remember to have your declaration papers out and ready at this point. (they give them to you the night before with everything else. Everyone must fill them out no matter if you have something to declare or not and one per family/last name) Then its straight out the door and there are the shuttles and taxi's. Very glad they are doing it by zone now and not just by color.

When you do first get to the port in Tampa, you will see out very easy it is and how close everything is.

Our flight back wasnt until 5:30 so we paid $7 per person, not per bag, for the port authority to hold our bags, walked across the street to the Aquarium, spent about an hour and a half there and then took a taxi to the airport. We arrived at the airport at 11:45. The trip from the airport to the port is about a 10/15 min drive. TAKE A TAXI if you havent already purchased transfers thru carnival. MUCH CHEAPER! The transfer is about 34 or 36 a person and the taxi is one flate rate/no meter of $22 period, not per person.

We originally had a flight choice of a 10:30 flight or 5:30. I didnt want to push our luck and have something happen that would hinder us from making the 10:30 flight so that's why we went with the 5:30. I'm sure now if we did the self disembark, we may have made the earlier flight. But it was nice to just take our time. NOTE: if you chose to take a later flight, you can not check in your bags at the airport until 4 hours prior to your flight. When we got to the airport, we checked ourselves in but could not check our bags until 1:30....we rented one of those carts and just wheeled it around for a while. NICE BIG AIRPORT. They have a TGIFridays and other places. Shops etc.

Sorry this is so long. Just wanted to give you some information. So its really up to you if you want to take the earlier flight. Like I said, I didnt want to chance it.

Good Luck and have a great trip!

(hint: if you drink, the girl bartendar with short dirty blond hair at the aft/adult pool is awesome! She makes really good ones!) :D

Probably because we didn't cruise the same week. We were on the Dean week cruise (KeyWest-Nassau-Half Moon Cay-Grand Turk). I think the Capt was crawling back into Tampa and stayed the required distance out until casino closed. We were in really early. As for checking bags at airport Delta allows you to check 6 hours before. We had a 6:15 flight and had to wait till 12:15 to check our bags. We rented a car and drove around and had something to eat before going back to airport at 5pm.

I booked a junior suite on Carnival Legend on the Empress deck, which is about mid-ship (6158 I believe). Has anyone stayed in these suites on this level before? What is the layout of the room (one continguous room or is it broken up into sections (sitting area, etc.) Are these suites as spacious as the aft cabins I've read about in other threads (with the wrap around balconies)? I'm more concerned with the space and how it's laid out in the cabin moreso than for the balcony. The room I booked says it has a sofa pullout and one upper berth. Do you remember if that berth was in the way?

Any additional info and/or pics of these suites would be appreciated

Excited about the cruise already and it's not until February! :D :D :D

Thanks in advance,

TF

Also, I believe I remember reading somewhere that if you have an early flight, you can go down to the purser's desk the night before and they will tell you where to meet in the morning. Don't quote me on this, but i thought I saw it in the last capers. I was in Zone 5, the first group called, and walked off the boat at 9:30. This depends on many things though.

The berth in my room tucked up flush into the ceiling, I never knew it was there.

Hey all! My hubby and I will be leaving this Sunday (9/16) for our first cruise!! We will be on the Legend in 4160. I am so excited and can't even contain myself.

My question is where do I find out if our cruise has been redirected to another location instead of Costa Maya? Also any of you stay in 4160 or have any other tidbits I need to know about the Legend or being a first time cruiser? I've read so much great information and really appreciate everyone posting. I think all of the suggestions I've read will really help make my trip a success.

One last question...I'm nervous about sea sickness when I first get on the boat, anything any of you swear by to avoid this?

Thanks,

Dawn ;)

to dajb: I got an email from Carnival, we ARE going to Roatan instead of Costa Maya on Friday.

Also, I swear by Bonine (actually get a "generic" version at CVS cheaper) but after a very bumpy ride during hurricane Ivan, hubby likes the patch.

See you Sunday!

How long do the bungee cords, that I have read about, need to be to manage the balcony doors?

We are in an extended balcony room, Category??/ (I forget)

Thanks.

I would say about an arm to arm width but we didnt use one.

REMEMBER, the A/C in your room will shut off when the door is open to long!

We too are on the Legend this weekend. My hubby shocked me this morning and said he wanted to wear his tux for the formal nights. Didn't think he wanted to even dress up in a sports coat! We live at 7400 ft. in Colorado and its 50 degrees right now. Looking forward to some warmer weather. I've gone thru our suitcases several times, but am sure I'm overpacked....especially on the shoes! We have an aft cabin 8275, with my brother & wife next door in 8277. If we go to Roatan we plan to scuba dive...any other divers out there?

Seasickness has never been as issue for me because I take one Bonine before I board and one every morning with my coffee.

Also, be sure to drop by the Piano bar and tell Michael that "Aretha Franklin" says hi. He will know who you are talking about. He comes onboard on your cruise and will be there until Christmas. A genuinely nice guy!!!

Have a WONDERFUL cruise!!!!

I haven't even started packing yet!! I guess I'll do that all on Saturday. I'm nervous about packing - don't want to over pack, but dont' want to forget anything either. Our first cruise, so I'll probably pack way too much!! See you there!!

I was just curious if I could go on the dive excursion with my hubby and not dive. I'm not a diver and would love to just go and snorkel. Anyone know? Also if I can, does it cost the same for me to just go and snorkel/hang out?

Can you tell me what this cabin was like. I have it booked for next March.

Also is this a rocky ship? I only have minor motion problems which is why I book low and midship but now with reading about stablizer problems I am a bit worried. Any input????

I was on Miracle with no problems so I am hoping the same for Legend

Thank you

Kim

Just got off the Legend last Sunday (9/9/07) and it was the smoothest cruise I've ever been on (and I can usually feel almost every little thing)! Very rarely felt any movement. In fact, a few times, we looked over the side to see if we were moving! That increased after we lost power during our cruise and actually did stop moving for about 45 minutes! It was so smooth, we kept wondering if we lost power again. :D

In my opinion, the Legend is the most beautiful Carnival ship! Have fun!

Kim,

I'll let you know when I get back. This is my first cruise, so I hope it's a good room! :p

If anyone goes to Tulum from Cozumel please let me know how it was.

Going in April and DS wants to see ruins. I know it is a long haul (7 hours).

I would like to know cost and is it worth the $ and time. DH and myself have seen ruins (Chichen Itza) but our DS has not and is really looking forward to them and now we are not going to Costa Maya:(

As I can tell Tulum is my only other option:confused:
