Is Paradise Beach going to have a admittance fee?

We were at Paradise Beach last week and were chatting with PB Tom (hi Tom!). He said that wear and tear and maintenance of the "beach toys" was getting costly and that they were thinking of instituting wrist bands for $5 for use of all the equipment but that entry to the beach would remain free. I believe this would be instituted in November (Tom, did I get this right??). It was a great beach with very friendly staff and super service! I definately recommend it!

A fee, They went from coupons for 2 for 1 drinks to charging a fee? This may change some minds?

Will have to wait and see. Was planning on going in December. Group was happy to see a beach that was free. Free is something you normally don't see especially on a Cruise.

Hey, what can you get for $5 today? With all the spending you are doing on this cruise -- sure, FREE is better, but where can your kids go for a full day of fun for $5 in a resort town? Even the arcade on the ship will have your kid going through 5 bucks in 5 minutes!

At $5 for toys -- this resort will still be the best bargain in the Caribbean!

:p

Yup, starting Oct 1st, entrance, beach chairs and umbrellas will still be free, but if you want to use the watertoys (snorkel equipment, iceburg, mats, water trampoline, kayaks) we are going to charge $5 a head. That means unlimited use of all the watertoys! That money will be going right back into the equipment. As Marcys pointed out, (Hi Marcy!) equipment does get broken and worn out (just replaced all the springs on the trampoline today!) and we just aren't making enough on food and drink alone. Based on the fact that every other beach club will charge you $6-$10 for snorkel rental alone, I still think we're miles ahead in the value dept!

Marcys...nice to "see" you again! Are you having vacation withdrawls? Hasta la vista!

tidelover...hopefully we'll still see you guys in Dec...maybe you can get someone in the group to lend you the $5 bucks? ;) Just kidding...have a great vacation!

Cinderelli...lol! Thanx for the great post!

jonestown90...no worries, I can be bribed with treats! No fee for you! See ya SAT.

clemsoncruiser...consider this your 7 1/2 week notice!

I don't want to make anyone mad, or start any drama, but, c'mon, $5?? Do you expect everything else to be free? I don't think so. From what I have read on Paradise Beach, I think it'll be worth it. I'll be there in December off the Elation 12/12/04, and I am so looking forward to the white sandy beaches, and clear water. I live in Houston, TX and the only water I see it Galveston. I'm definitely looking for something more "tropical". I can't wait....

5$ for use of the equipment is a BARGAIN! You'd pay more for that on any one thing. Heck many beaches you'd pay that for an umbrella/lounge chair.

AND if you don't intend to use the equipment, it will still be free.

Sounds like a heckuva deal to me. See you in Dec!

We cruise on September 26th also, what cruise ship will you be on. We will be on the Explorer with RCCL. We will be in Cozumel on the 30th. Five dollars is quite a bargain to use the equipment. I forget what we paid in Chankanaab (sp) and that was the entrance fee only.

Paradise Tom - Cant wait to spend the day on the beach and try the nachos everyone raves about.

How much does RCI charge for use of the equipment at Labadee for one hour? It costs $3.5 a head to get into our state parks here in Maine. $5.00 a head to use the equipment is a bargain. If I can convince my clan, we'll try to visit while cruising on Mariner the week of Oct 10.

I will be on the Rhapsody Oct 10 I think we dock inCozumel oct 14 I will for one be a paradise beach with my 5 spot in hand. I think everyone who hits paradise show their support for tom and donate 5 dollars if you arrive before oct 1. I mean hello how much will you spend on 1 drink or in the casino and so on and so on its only 5 dollars. You have my support Tom.

The way I look at it, it's still cheaper than some of the other beaches like Chankanaab. I paid $12 just to get into that beach the last time I was there. And there were no free water toys either. And if the $5 fee scares off some of the people, then that's good for me because I have less people to share the iceberg, space walker, and water trampoline with! :D Less people on the water toys, hey, it's worth it! :) I'm not a cheapo. You'll see me there.:p

Creempuff,

I knew you werent complaining but when I saw October 1 ( I knew we were stopping close to that day l) I just had the same thought!

RCCL hasnt started to charge for Johnny Rockets on the Explorer, yet. I know a charge will probably start the day I sail. LOL. I have a teenage daughter who loves the place.

PB Tom - Thanks for the "7 1/2 week notice" although with me its more like 7 1/2 months!!! :) Nothing like an early planer! I am already looking forward to spending the day at Paradise Beach and getting an order of some of these nachos I keep hearing so much about!! BTW - I think that the $5 fee is a great idea and definitely still a bargain!!! See you in April!!!

I know $5 isn't much. I was just looking forward to a relaxing "Free" day on the beach. Yes I will be purchasing drinks and food also, just $30 less now as we have 6 in our party. Wife and sister-in-law will be paying $5 for only the floats since they will not use other items. We will probably still visit PB still, however will not be able to do as much as orginally planed since we are on a budget.

Also, just another note. This is our first cruise as a family, my only other cruise was in 1984 and I didn't remember everything costing this much.

PB TOm, we were there july 28th, you were off that day so we missed you, but we would go back in heartbeat, even for 5 bucks!!! we spent way more than that in our drinks all day there anyways!! we just loved the iceberg and trampoline, so it will worth it to pay that little to get to use it!! Is was a beautiful place, very clean and safe feeling. we left everything there while we all played in the water. And i must say again how comforting it was that you had such clean restroom facilities, that was a plus! way to go!! We will for sure be back one day, and wouldn't mind to pay $5 for such a fun day!!

I was just trying to figure out where Paradise Beach is located. Several years ago in Cozumel, we went to a beach called San Francisco beach. Is this the same place or nearby? If I remember the sand there was a little gritty and more khaki than white. It was still nice but not powdery white. What is the bottom of the water like? Would you recommend water shoes or is it a smooth sandy bottom?

I have 2 senior citizens with me (81 & 79) and although they are mobile, they really can't walk too far. What kind of walk is it from where you would exit in a taxi to where you can find a lounge chair.

Tom:

My husband and I will be cruising and visiting Cozumel for the first time during the first week in September and can't wait to visit Paradise Beach. What is the best way to get there, once our ship (Rhapsody) docks? Any idea of the cost to get there? Can't wait to try the nachos!
