New to Norwegian Cruise Line

Hi every one, I have booked the Bermuda cruise out of Charston S/C for this Oct.28 07 on the Majesty. Its the only time the majesty sails from this port.

Have no idea why only one a year. We have never cruised NCL before and was wondering what we can expect. We are an older couple but love to have a good time and join in on the fun. The main purpose of the cruise is to get to Bermuda but we love cruise ships so we hope for the best of both worlds. Yes I guess we are greedy.LOL

Any info from past Majesty cruisers or visiters to Bermuda would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Hi woodman,

Haven't been to Bermuda yet, but I think you will love the Majesty. It's an older ship, and smaller, but the crew is great! I've heard that the majority of them have worked together for quite a while, and it shows in the service.

The ship is short on glitz, and if you like the "fabulous" aspect of cruising I suppose you might feel a bit disappointed (no huge atrium in the center of the ship, for example), but the plus side to the scale of the ship is that you don't walk your legs off to get anyplace.

We had excellent service in the Seven Seas dining room, managed to get the same waiter several nights despite the 'freestyle' setup, and everyone enjoyed the food very much. Buffets are not the greatest re: selection, but since we ate in the dining room for dinner each night and mostly just breakfasted at the buffet or omelet station, it was not a problem.

I can't speak to the quality of the shows or entertainment, but my parents thoroughly enjoyed the show they went to. The casino was larger than I expected, lots of slots (and they seemed to be paying pretty well, at least at the beginning of the week;) ).

Hope this helps.

You will enjoy the Majesty. It is an older ship, but really well maintained. The crew really takes good care of her. There are no balconys on this ship so if you like to sit outside, I recommend you start early. :)

Many of the cruise lines reposition their ships with a summer season up north and a winter season doing Caribbean cruises down south. In this way they maximize profits,

For example, this summer the Majesty will sail mostly Bermuda cruises from Boston. This coming winter season the Majesty will sail mostly Western Caribbean cruises from Charleston. She will also sail out of Charleston a Bermuda cruise as you mentioned, along with a repositional cruise to her next summers home port. This repositional cruise usually does Aruba.

Miami is home to four ships this upcoming winter, two ships repositioned to Europe this summer, one to New York, and one to Seattle.

As for the Majesty cruises to Bermuda, frankly it gets too cold in Bermuda to sail there during the winter when the Majesty sails to Cozumel.

Majesty was our first cruise, a short 5 nighter, out of Miami in Nov., 2002. Loved the ship and the crew. Hooked us on cruising. Sailed the Majesty on a Western Caribbean again a few years later.

As said above, the ship is a smaller ship and in being smaller pax and crew can develop a more personal relationship with each other. By the time you disembark the ship you feel like you ``know'' most of the crew and also have met (at least once) most of the passengers. It's a good thing, as Martha S. would say.

Since the Bermuda cruises have begun you'll find much posted lately on the Majesty. I LOVE this little ship and its crew. As others have posted, you won't find a ferris wheel on the top deck and the glitz of other, newer ships, but there is a lot to be said about her. Many have sailed her 5,8,10+ times. Have fun!:)
