Short time in ports....

Our ship arrives in Ketchikan at 6:30 a.m., and at 7:30 we will go on a 2-hour Misty Fjords flightseeing excursion with Island Wings. We leave Ketchikan at 2:00, so we'll have several hours to explore the town on foot.

What time will you leave Juneau?

many ships have 6 hrs, some have more. plenty of time to do what you want. we had early sunset, only had 5 1/2 hours of light..still time for whale watching and shopping. for mendenhall glacier, do a search of these boards...or read a few pages...it's being discussed right now.

it's about a 1/2 hour from juneau, easy shuttles ($), visitor's centers, hiking trails...easy to do on your own. not sure how early the shuttles to mendenhall are started.

also, the tram, fishing, flightseeing..all able to be done in short time.

cute town to just walk around. you might want to call the visitor's center to find out when the area for totem poles open. otherwise they have the ducks tours and city tours, with ticket booths at the visitor's center.

We have very little time in Ketchikan and Juneau, with really early arrival times (6 and 7 AM). Any recommendations on how to best use this time for the most over all experience?

Thanks,

Smurf

You have over 6 hours in both ports so that should give you plenty of time. You'll just have to get to bed early the night before so you can be up early and off the ship when it docks!

Check out the Sun's excursions. One that is highly recommended is from Juneau, the "Tracy Arm Fjord & Glacier Explorer". This excursion normally is a sell out!
