DELFIN Posted April 8, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2004 I'm trying to decide what to do in Ketchikan with our group. We're being offered a 3 - 4 hour hike through the rain forest, plus a stop at Bight Totem Park for about $65.00 pp. After reading the posts, I question if it's necessary to go on a "paid formal" tour for a forest hike in Ketchikan. Anybody's input would be greatly appreciated! 64 Days to Go! Summit, 6-11-
Budget Queen Posted April 10, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 10, 2004 No it's not necessary, but at that price for a first timer- you'll get plenty of information that will enhance your trek. I think it is a quite reasonable cost including transportation. Perhaps ask where the hike goes and go from there with your guided decision? DELFIN Posted April 12, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Thanks Budget Queen, I'm driving myself nuts reading the posts, wanting to do everything and please everyone in our group! The tour operators seem really nice and will give us a "customized" hike to fit our fitness ability! They have a site "Alaskanaturalmystic", every heard of them? Budget Queen Posted April 13, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 13, 2004 Nope. But one thing I found out working with groups- split up. Have a list of possible tours and let everyone choose. Especially in Alaska- there are tours too good to miss if of interest and too costly to take if not interested. DELFIN Posted April 15, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted April 15, 2004 10-4 Budget Queen, read you loud and clear. Threw ball of wax right back at my "groupies" regarding Ketchikan AND received standard answer "Whatever you decide is fine" Soooo, booked us a couple of vehicles and will see which way everyone blows once at port! Husband and I usually like to "explore" on our own. Any must sees in Ketchikan??? We're there most of the day. Budget Queen Posted April 16, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 16, 2004 My favorites are the floatplanes. But request their visitor guide www.visit-ketchikan.com for more info.
