merchandise sale day on every cruise?

I was wondering if there is always a merchandise sale day on every cruise. Last July we were on the Caribbean Princess and there was one day when jewelry, t-shirts, beachwear, etc; was sold in one of the dining rooms for a few hours. It was like a big "yard sale" with great bargains on clearance items.

Usually held on the last sea day.

They have had this sale on every one of our 6 Princess cruises...FYI those Prices are usually the same Prices in the gift shops if you look carefully.

Most of the T-shirts we have seen were silk screened with the previous year.

The ladies seamed to pass over the jewelry and hand bags. A lot of watches were being sold, but close inspection showed $5.00 watches being sold on sale for $10.00.

Hi,

You betcha they have them but not necessarily on every trip.

Generally when a ship is repositioned, from Caribbean to Alaska (Coral), South Pacific to Alaska (Pacific) as examples, the ships accumulate extra stock, and nobody on an Alaska cruise from Vancouver or Seattle over the summer wants to buy a Grand Cayman, Cozumel or Panama Canal T-shirt or other tourist garbage they sell on the other season's itineraries of the vessels.

As such the ships generally will try to drastically reduce their inventory of stock by holding these sales in one of the DRs from 1000+/- to 1300/- hours. In talking with the crew on our Panama Canal repo on the Coral in 06, they indicated that once they get to SFO to start the coastal 2-4 day to YVR or SEA that is when they start stocking the shelves for the first Alaska sailing out of the Pacific Northwest. The sale on the repo cruises is generally the second last day before the commencement of the coastal voyage from SFO.

Don't necessarily agree that prices are the same as in the gift shops as you could get a good selection of multi-destination t-shirts for 3 for USD$15, so there are some bargains to be had.

Ciao for now!!!

SALE

Thats one four letter word that sounds nicer than sometimes it is..

IN NJ here your only allowed to use it in Print rarely and when it is meant not just said. Consumer Protection is just.

On any ship know what your buying and the prices about what they are too .. then you can compare well.

A lot of so called SALE Days are getting rid of inventory time.. especially on transition cruises. Even in the so called TAX (DUTY) FREE Stores have you ever noticed they charge you TAX too..?

Yes I saw that a few times and questioned it and was told it was a service fee..

Well that better than on NCL before, or now too? In Bermuda there are Three Ports of Call for Cruise Ships. But NCL Charged Port taxes on each one they went to .. Even though Bermuda's Government only has one charge for as many P O Call you visit there.. ? So yes you should always know what thye charges are, why and how much...

In Taxes, fees and costs.

SOmetimes on the ships yes there are great values too. But knowing is so key.

The CB was simply crawling with "sale" tables out in the walkways around the atrium every single evening!

The individual boutiques also had various itmes on tables out front every day with "sale" prices. These items, I was told, are usually scheduled to be just available for a single day, so get them when you see them and don't wait. (Certain shirts for certain ports, etc...)

The big "clearance sale" was held on the final sea day in the dining room and was just tables full of old merchandise and looked to be stuff nobody wanted to buy from the shops to begin with! It was a quick walk through for us.

The biggest discount is 75 percent off and not too shabby a price to pay for a tee shirt that was originally $16, and subsequently reduced to $12. They're well made and you've gotten a bargain for $3.00. That is however, if you want something that says Barcelona when you're on a Caribbean cruise. Or for that matter, St. Thomas when your doing the Baltics. Lots of folks don't care what their tees say and for them it is truly a big sale and a good buy.

OTOH, the $10 items (scarves, costume jewelry, watches, belts, evening purses, hats, etc., by Bijoux Turnier) are the same items that are always $10 in the shops.

We have been on the old Royal Princess ship when it were making its last cruise as a Princess ship before going to P&O. So near the end of the cruises they were "dumping" all the Princess logo items. We picked up a bunch of nic-naks that made good stocking stuffers or party favors.
