I just found out that the office at the Hyatt is now closed Sundays and closes Saturday at 1:00 PM. And Enterprise now no longer has a free shuttle to the pier from the Miami airport location. Since we are leaving on our cruise on a Sunday, Enterprise doesn't work for us now. This is all new - when I booked 6 months ago, the Hyatt location WAS open on Sundays.

 

We cancelled our reservations with them and booked with Dollar - ended up saving $25 for a one day rental and they will shuttle us to the pier for free.

For a Friday departure, that will work perfectly. We were very disappointed with the change in hours at the Hyatt - we had planned to do exactly what you are doing but now that the office is closed Sunday,s it is impossible.

 

WHen we called the Hyatt office, one of the clerks said "You can go to the Interncontinental and drop the keys with the concierge - we do't have a desk there, but he'll take the car for you."

 

Yeah, right - I am going to leave a rental car without having it checked by Enteprise with a concierge at a hotel that Enterprise doesn't have a desk at...and this clerk asked his Manager if that was okay to do and they said yes!

 

It was easier to rent with another company - we plan on getting the car back to the airport at noon and by the time we get the shuttle from DOllar to the pier, we should avoid the rush of early passengers and not have to wait to embark ....we hope.

this is such good information! I wish it could be a "sticky"! We are flying into MCO and out of FLL (only a $2 difference between doing this & an MCO RT!) so we can "do Disney" for a day or two before the cruise and I was worried about the transportation- rent a car at MCO, drop off 2 days later at FLL, taxi to the port, etc. This wonderful thread answered all my questions. No drop-off fees in Florida! 1 mile from FLL to the dock, easy to get a taxi....Awesome. Thanks!

I did not get much difference in price vs Budget for an intermediate, but I booked a convertible with Avis using this code for only $20 more than the price for an intermediate!!!This is awesome!!! As per the quote above it seems dollar has a shuttle to the port.. if all else fails.. the taxi cost from MIA to the port of MIA is 24 flat rate.

I am getting off a cruise at FLL on a Saturday, checking into Hampton Plantation (they have a shuttle if I need it) and then going down to the Keys for the day, returning to Hampton Plantation at night. I have a second cruise on Sunday. I would like to return my car Sunday morning early, and take the Hampton shuttle to the port so I don't have to pay for an additional car rental day (I plan on spending the day until I have to leave for the cruise with family at the Hampton). Are any of the car rentals near The Hampton? I could either get the car at the port and return it near the Hampton, or return it in the am at the airport and catch the Hampton shuttle back to the Hampton. Anyone have other suggestions of how to have a car for just 24 hours? Thank you.
