Amtrak into Newark? How far to Port Liberty?

We have an upcoming cruise out of Port Liberty in New Jersey. Has anyone ever taken Amtrak into Newark (the airport)? How far to the pier? Cost for a taxi?

I know that there are two Amtrak stops in Newark. Is it easier to get to the pier from the stop at Newark Airport or the other Newark stop? It seems that the trains from CT run more frequently into the airport stop.

Is it easy to hail a taxi at the pier at the completion of the cruise?

Thanks.

The airport or newark penn (which is probably the other stop you are referring to) is about 15 minutes away from the cruise port, maybe 20 if there is traffic. Either stop is fine. There should be taxi's available at the pier. If there aren't just have a cab company number available to call in case. Archie's and Bayonne Cab would be fine. I'm sure you could google to get their info. Happy Sailing!

Cost of a taxi from Newark Airport to Cape Liberty Cruise Port is about $35.00.

A couple of quick words about Amtrak and Newark:

1.) there are 2 stations - Newark Penn Station (the main stop) and Newark Airport

2.) At the Newark Airport stop, not all trains stop there (none of the Acela trains do) and there is no connecting ground transportation except the Airtrain to Newark Airport.

3.) Your best bet is to get off at Newark Penn Station and get a cab there. There is a taxi line there and as mentioned it's probably about a 20 minute ride to Port Liberty from there. There's also many more trains that stop at Newark Penn Station as ALL trains stop there.
