Corfu FAQ

Recommended Posts

I put my research together from my last Med Cruise and created a FAQ thread that people could add to. I thought I should create similar threads for my upcoming Greek/Turkey ports so will start here with a list of things I have uncovered on these sites.

So hopefully you summer cruisers can add to it on your return from the Greek Isles... tell us what not to miss, the must sees and the don't waste your time sites. Any amazing bargains that are not to be missed or previously undiscovered restaurants.

I was pleasantly surprised with Corfu and loved wandering around the town.

Frances, which sites are close/walking to the port? We plan to go to Albania but I may have an hour when I return to wander around. Thanks!

I think you would maybe have to get a cab to the old town. There were a couple of cafes across the road and further to your left, a few stores - can't recall how far. The old town itself was about 20-30min walk from the port.

We walk for at least several hours each weekend so I don't think 20 minutes will be a problem.

Where is the Synagogue?

I hear that Achillon Palace is a "must-see" sight, but I'm having trouble locating it with googlemap, in relation to the Old Town. The "hits" show one being *in* the Old Town, two are about 5 miles south of Corfu town and one is even northwest of it!? I'm thinking that it's one of the two hits south of Corfu town (although the hits are about 2 miles apart from each other!):

Is Achillon Palace reasonably walkable (no health issues) from the Old Fort/Pier, and if not, what's the best/economical way to get there (is there a frequent/shuttle city bus that one can take)? What should the cab fare be, as I read that it should be negotiated *before* the ride?

Hi

The Achellion is south of Corfu town just before Benitses so about 12km away. On maps look for Kaisers bridge and it is just off to the left up the hill.

A taxi should be fairly cheap, we've been to Corfu many times but I've never used local buses.

I'm thinking Paleokastritsa may be the best way to spend a good portion of our day on Corfu, but I have a few questions!

Is the bus stop in Corfu Town (to catch the bus to Paleo) easy to find? I've read that a taxi should be about 35EU each way but the bus is only 4.20EU. I'm thinking we'll take the bus there and maybe a taxi back (and get dropped off at Achillion Palace).

Is the bus stop in Paleo near the beach or monastery?

Are there bed rentals at the Paleo beach? How much?

Are their lockers at Paleo? How much?

Thanks in advance!

also - we'll think about a rental car as well to get there. is it okay to leave valuables in a car? i know in some tourist places they tell you to not leave anything in cars and to just leave the doors unlocked. not sure if this is one of those places. thanks!
