How much do you spend on a ship?

I'm taking a card with $1500 available. I prepaid gratuity, purchased drink coupons online and paid for our exursions already. I have $200 in ones and fives for extra tipping. So I'm hoping not to spend much on the card. But you never know.

Im asking because i want to decide which credit card to use for my ss card....they do a $100 deposit..and then $10 per person per day...so i hear only coffee...and beverages cost extra....what about in room service?

and what all restaurants are free...i know the main dining is free...and the buffet on the lido deck? and the 24 hour pizza....what about he seaview grill ...im talking about on the sensation ...thanks

The other responses got it right, so I won't restate what they said but would add that if you're a "drinker" (alcohol) at all, you don't need to be sloshed all the time to run up a surprising bill.

Say that the drinks w/tip average $8; two people, you have a bloody mary with lunch, a beer (cheaper I know, but this is an average) or two in the afternoon, a glass of wine with dinner and 2 drinks over 4 or 5 hours in the disco at night while shaking your booty. Over 7 days, you've spent $560.

Plus tips, sodas, specialty coffee or ice cream, etc, throw in a shore excursion and you can easily hit $1,000 for two for 7 days. And I haven't even mentioned the casino!

Almost all of the above is discretionary, though, so you can control it. But since the spending comes in small bits over several days, and you're in a vacation frame of mind, it can creep up and you can get quite a surprise by the end of your cruise!

Enjoy your trip,

Dave

You spent an extra $730.00 on pictures and t shirts while having one drink a day ? Ahhh, com on

We just got back from our honeymoon cruise on the Conquest. Limited our drinks to 1 each a day bought a few shirts and the wife some dolphin stuff. Our S&S bill was $1345.00. $590.00 was shore excursions and the rest was pics and the drinks and the other stuff that I mentioned. In my opinion well worth the money we spent except for this one drink that was in a monkey head shaped coconut. You could get whatever drink you wanted in it in a glass, but it was $17.50 just for 1!!! Should of asked before we ordered it I guess :)

our last cruise (we got back may 12th) we spent just over 2,000.

However, we did by $320 worth of Art, I got my hair done for formal night and my darling hubby turned into a lush. We also spent about $400 on shore excursions, worth every penny.

we got the rip off coconut head too... i wouldnt mind but the cocktail inside was awful so i had to throw it away.

we bought one picture also...

our attitude was "we are not worrying about spending on our honeymoon"... we paid some of it off with cash we brought (originally for jewelry but didnt find much I fell in love with)...

off shore we didnt spend that much to be honest, i got a couple of necklaces at $100 each and some other junk, dont worry about money too much people! its a vacation! your supposed to leave your worries at home!

Our s&s card for 2 was $480. We did 1 shore excursion (monkeys on Isla Roatan, sooo much fun!!) DVD of said excursion, photo album, some christmas ornimants, daily tipping, and LOTS of drinks for DH. Honestly, I really thought I spent alot more than I actually did. It's vacation, why hold back?

Oh, and you might want to carry some $1's with you on board. I was in a WC and there were so many crew members that went above and beyond offering to carry my tray at the buffett, voluntering to go get my juice, etc. You'll probably want to tip these people too!

We TRY to limit ourselves to a glass of wine at dinner on formal nights, and maybe a few foo foo drinks, but spend on excursions and photos. If I include the auto-tip of about 140.00 (for 7 days) and then extra tips it's around 650.00 to 700.00 extra on a cruise.

If you pre pay your tips does the $10 per person per day still apply on the sail and sign card? I guess i am not understanding everything correctly!

No, it will not be on your sail and sign if you pre-pay the tips. It will be less "sticker shock" if you pre pay the tips and the shore excursions before you leave.

Total Sail&Sign bill for our 4-day cruise was $215.

Three people were signed to our cabin's S&S account..

Me, The Wife and a 14 yr.old grand-dau, along for the ride.

Wife and I spent $150, and the kid chalked up the other $65.

You pay if you're a boozer: we're not.

Money spent ashore not incl. in the above

5 day cruise May 19-25 5 adults -$560 -Tips of $250 pre-paid. No art, massages or casino. About $100 in pics, 2 coke cards and the rest drinks. And we didn't drink alot. In fact 2 of the 5 don't drink. And the others only drank maybe 6 drinks each on the whole cruise......leaving me....the lush that I am.....drinking Coors Light buckets of beer. We spent almost half of that amount on sail away day buying drinks for us and friends!! And then our senses came back to us......:p

Just remember you can always go to the pursers desk and ask for an update of your S & S. They'll give you a copy of the bill too if you want it.

i absolutely agree with this, we checked in maybe every other day? or near enough.... just to see what we were spending. It all adds up pretty quickly, i seriously dont know how people can spend 25 bucks for the entire cruise... good lord amazing! maybe if we did that we would be cruising 5 times a year instead of twice!

Most of the ships you can see your s/s account on your television. I know everybody is different, but our (2 people) s/s card was $1700:eek: for our last 7 day cruise on the Legend. That wasn't counting the $100 in drink coupons we had bought ahead of time. We didn't use the s/s card in the casino either.
