Motel in Fort Lauderdale & Excursions questions?

We will be sailing out of Fort Lauderdale on October the 21'st. We will be ariving on the 20th and will need a motel. I was wondering if I could get some suffegestion for a good motel close to the cruise port at a reasonable price and a nice place. WE will be driving so it doesn't matter if there is transportation to the port or not. I would like to stay as cheap as possible but I don't want to stay in a dump. Also we will stopping in Key West. What does everybody recomment there. I have looked at the Key West boards but figured I would ask hear as well. We will be in Ocho Rios and we are planning the bike and snorkel adventure offered by Carnival. In Grand Cayman we are going to do the Kayaking excursion offered by Carnival. Does anybody have any reviews on these two?

Have you looked through all the recommendations on the East Coast depatures thread. I dont think we have enough information to know what to suggest (and I lived in S. Florida for 13 years). Do you need to stay really close to the port? do you like older places that have some charm? the beach in Pompano is lower cost and id stay there I think. Its about 20 minutes north of the port.

Here is a particularly good thread on staying in Ft. Lauderdale. Also someone named Bequia (sp) seems to be particularly good and is posting some threads with maps of where the hotels are located.

We just got back from Ft Lauderdale....we stayed at the Ramada airport/cruiseport. $85 a night, they have a great restaurant, nice pool and garden area, large rooms that are clean and comfortable, free internet stations and it includes free hot breakfast buffet, pick up at airport and shuttle to cruiseport.
