Question for Flyertalk

Hi Flyertalk.

I really appreciate your knowledge and insight into all things airfare related. I am booked on a transatlantic cruise next April, and need to buy oneway airfare from Rome to LAX. The cheapest rate I can find online is $595 w/all taxes included. Do you think it would be prudent to wait till after the first of the year and hope for a decrease in price, or book now? I am really not familiar with airfares to Europe, so have not idea about when sales may occur. Any and all feedback is welcomed. Thanks!

I personally feel that that is not a bad airfare at all, espeically for a one-way ticket. Sometimes the best deals to be had are at this point, 10-11 months in advance. This is often when I book my airfare and can usually snag the cheapest seats.

The date of the flight might be helpful to the airfare experts on here, but personally speaking, I would be all over that fare. I just grabbed a random date on United's website for next April and the lowest price FCO-LAX was $2100+

I'm not FlyerTalk, but I would take that fare. April is right around when fares to Europe start to rise for the summer season, and I don't even dare to speculate what's going to happen with fuel costs. I doubt you'll get a chance to pay less, but you could easily end up paying more.

Thanks everyone for all the feedback. I should have worded the thread title differently, as in "Question for Flyertalk & anyone else who can help." My bad.

 

The cruise actually ends on May 10th, but I plan on staying in Rome till the 14th. Now that you guys have given me some validation on the fare, I am going to go ahead and book it. I just need to wait for the date that I need(the 14th) to load into the system. Right now the latest date that is bookable is the 7th, one week earlier. Hopefully by this time next week I will have my ticket in hand.
