Can anyone tell me how to get from the Airport at LAX to the Port for a Los Angeles cruise ? I have read that it is pretty far of a drive and renting a car is a hassle. What cost are involved and what shuttles-etc. will do round trip transfers for our return. There are 8 adults.

Thanks to anyone who can help.:)

Did you want the port of L.A. (In San Pedro) or Long Beach? There are 2 ports. Carnival Pride leaves from Long Beach. Most other cruise lines leave from Port of L.A. If you take a shuttle or Taxi, make sure and be specific to which port you want. If you are not sure, double check your documents or contact your TA to verify.

Carnival sails from Long Beach for Paradise and Pride.

It's about a 30-40 min drive regular traffic to port.. I would suggest since it's 8 of you, to split cab fare. Renting a car, is too much trouble, and $, and time wasted.

The freeway is near LAX, and you take the freeway and it takes you very directly to port = a fast hassel free arrival.

You rent a car, you land, get your bags, then stand outside for a shuttle to show up, then waste more time in line at the rental car place. Then YOU figure out where the freeway is and how to get there. Then when you get there, there isn't a rental car drop off near the port. So you keep the rental for the week, and park in the parking structure and pay $$. Then at debarkation you have to figure out timewise dropping off the car, shuttle back to LAX, then hope to catch your plane.

Just taxi it. Split the fare.

take a look at super shuttle's website. now I don't normally recommend them for just 1-2 people getting to or from LAX, but when you have a large party and book a van through them, for us anyway, it has always worked out great.

You would need atleast two taxis, possibly three ...and i'm guessing that the fare wouldn't be cheap considering the mileage and standing time. The Carnival shuttle is expensive, not to mention that your arrival is late in the day of your cruise. If I were you, I would rent a vehicle that would hold all of you---even two vehicles that hold four is alot cheaper than 2 taxis. The major rental agencies offer one way rentals at no additional charge. LAX to Long Beach and then taxi it from the car rental return locale to port would probably save you in excess of a $100. LAX rental shuttles come by every 10 mins tops and for directions you can always use mapquest or pay the few extra dollars and get GPS from the car rental agency.

For you, I would take suppershuttle, for solo a taxi would be too much $, I believe supper shuttle is like $24. I would then recommend staying at the "coast hotel", it is right at the port area. And they have a free shuttle to get you to the port so you don't have to walk. It's a beautiful property.

What if you are arriving the day before and staying at a hotel near the pier? I am on the Pride in May 2008 and I am flying in the day before. I am solo - should I just take a taxi and budget for the expense?

The shuttle companies charge "per person" for a "shared van"...but the charge for the second, third, fourt person is much reduced...

But, for the large party, they will quote you a rate for a "dedicated" van...and that rate will be for the entire van for the entire party...

Renting cars for the short trip (20 miles from LAX to the pier or to a hotel in San Pedro) is just not worth the hassle, the risk, the time checking in and out...It is NOT easy to do a one-way rental...Few rental companies even have a location near the pier in Pedro (For Hertz, for example, you need to drop the car off in Long Beach..and there's a charge) and ones that do sometimes don't have weekend hours...

I would pre-arrange a shuttle or shuttles for your entire party and luggage with either Super Shuttle, Prime Time Shuttle or one of the other shuttle services that service LAX...

If you book SuperShuttle - you will have to pay PER PERSON.

Not True! As Bruin Steve said, with eight of you, you can get a private van for your group. Go to the websites for SuperShuttle and PrimeTime to get prices. If I remember correctly, if you take a shared van it will be about $17 per person. A private van for eight is about $90. You can reserve them for one way or roundtrip. I doubt that you could get eight people and their luggage in two taxis, at about $50 each.

I have read that taxis are hard to find at the pier, we are on the Radiance in Sept and wondering if we should have a shuttle reserved, we do not like the ships buses, take to long to load and unload. we really just would prefer a taxi, but worried about getting one. thanks
