The EMERALD

Recommended Posts

Friends of ours were booked on The EMERALD (Louis Lines), Rome to Sydney in November. Ship was being chartered by Creative Cruising - Australia. From Rome to Sydney then Sydney to Rome. They were advised yesterday their cruise was cancelled, not told why, anybody know, insufficent bookings to bring the ship out here or Louis Lines in trouble?

Checked Creative Cruising website . They have no register now of either Louis Lines or Emerald in their search options . From press adverts seen in Melbourne Press the EMERALD looked a pretty old ship and the web says she was built in 1978 ! Info says she is Greek registration and itineraries in Mediteranean are on web till November . So either she has been sold, or Bookings for Australian visit and placement cruises to/from Rome were not enough - so cancelled . Most likely the latter. Star Cruises SS GEMINI is coming to Australia this summer and doing similar itineraries to what were advertised for EMERALD . Given SS GEMINI is much younger (1995) and well known to Aussies in Asia that may have had an effect on Emerald bookings too. SS GEMINI placement cruises Singapore to Aus in Nov, and returns to Singapore from Sydney early Feb 08 . In the three months does 2 full circumnavigations of Aus and offers many itineraries. Do a oogle search for MV EMERALD and first three results gives you some background info .

Which Emerald are we talking about ~ the one now assigned to Thomson through louis cruise lines (Originally built as the Santa Rosa then renamed Regent Rainbow)? or another ship? This sails in the Med April through October

That is right The Emerald, Louis Lines, was chartered by Creative Cruising, Australia to come out from Rome to Sydney and back, not enough pax, cruises cancelled, pity. Good trip, but I would prefer a larger, newer ship than Emerald, converted car ferry she is.

Cheers.

The Emerald wasn't a car ferry!

It is the former T/S Santa Rosa, an old passenger-cargo ship that was converted to a cruise ship.

You're thinking of the Calypso, that's the Thomson ship that used to be a car ferry called the Canguro Verde but refitted for Regency.
