Golfette Posted June 28, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2007 We're new to Oceana. Considering Pearls of Riviera cruise from Barcelona to Rome on Oct.9 2008. Have any of you taken a similar cruise? What are your thoughts? What is the weather like in those areas (Mallorca, Provence, St. Tropez, Monte Carlo , Sorrento, Amalfi etc.) in early October. Any info will be greatly appreciated. tgg Posted June 28, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 28, 2007 You've picked an ideal time to go. Heavy tourist season is over and you'll be able to enjoy everything without the crowds. For weather, try wunderground.com. I find it has the best historical information.
Druke I Posted June 28, 2007 #3 Share Posted June 28, 2007 Oceana is a ship of the Sun class, currently sailing for P&O (UK). She formerly was Ocean Princess. I'm sure you are referring to Oceania (with an I). They have three ships of the Renaissance class, Regatta, Nautica, and Insignia, and have an order for new, much larger, ships on the books. orchestrapal Posted June 29, 2007 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2007 We took this cruise in May of '06 in the reverse direction. We had glorious weather each and every day, low 70's. I believe October is similar to May, weather wise. Do your homework on the ports and you'll love it.:)
Golfette Posted June 29, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted June 29, 2007 We are considering Oct 9 2008. Checked weather at weatherbase.com & it didn't look good. Weather in low 60's with more than average chance of rain. Eeek! Tried another site, but couldn't get historical info. Anyone else traveled this time of year fairly recently>
digby Posted June 29, 2007 #7 Share Posted June 29, 2007 We took a Venice to Barcelona Regatta cruise leaving 10/20 last year. The weather could not have been nicer other than one day of high winds. No rain other than showers in Venice. Very few people in the ports. Great time to do the trip!
brian_uk Posted June 30, 2007 #8 Share Posted June 30, 2007 Late September is really when the weather starts to turn in The Med particularly around Italy. We have been In Spain at that time and had great weather (further South) but reports from other areas are not so great. Of course you can be lucky as Digby rightly says. sacway Posted July 2, 2007 #10 Share Posted July 2, 2007 we are also considering this cruise, but we can't go in October, and are looking at the sailing in early July. Would the weather and the crowds make this unappealing? Or, on this port-intensive route, would we thoroughly enjoy hanging out in a balcony cabin? Port-side preferable in these ports, or doesn't it matter?
California Native Posted July 5, 2007 #11 Share Posted July 5, 2007 you couldnt pay me enough to travel in Europe in July....seriously...the heat, the hoardes of people, and even the pickpockets multiply by the hundreds... with that said my brother decided to be married in Rome on July 22nd.. I leave next week

Would the weather and the crowds make this unappealing? Or, on this port-intensive route, would we thoroughly enjoy hanging out in a balcony cabin? Port-side preferable in these ports, or doesn't it matter? We just returned from a similar itinerary (different cruise line/early June) and swore we will NEVER return to Europe during the tourist season. The lines and crowds severely detracted from the experience. If you can, travel off season as recommended by others.
