There is an interview process and a waiting list but it's worth it. There are lots of people on this forum who have CCI dogs and can attest to their training and worthiness. You are so right that a puppy should NOT be considered a fully trained dog and be trusted not to nip at someone. That little girl did the right thing in asking, and then she got punished for doing so! So sad! I didn't even know CCI provided free. A lot of service dog trainers are non-profit. And some of those that "require" fundraising can be a scam. Linda and Halo

wizard-of-roz Posted March 9, 2019 Author #20633 Share Posted March 9, 2019 Have a nice weekend everyone. It was a very interesting weather week for us here in Southern California......we had everything but snow.....the thunder and lightening sent Horton to the bedroom.....he hates noises from the heavens! Don't forget to set your clocks ahead on Sunday......Hello more sunshine!!!!! Our next cruise is not until November and I got an "alert" from Princess letting us know that there's a change on arrival and departure times into San Francisco and Monterey.......amazing how planned they are, so early! BoazTheMastiff Posted March 11, 2019 #20637 Share Posted March 11, 2019 Thank you all so very much for all of your help and encouragement! We really enjoyed our recent Carnival cruise to Mexico! Boaz was indeed very very well received by crew and guest alike. He was treated like the cruise celebrity everywhere we went. Once we reboarded in our last port and we’re relaxing at the hot tub on the serenity deck is when I really began to feel relaxed but overall we enjoyed it all very much. We were seated with wonderful people and they all loved him too! Boaz even made the wall of fame and won a free 8x10 photo. He wasn’t too crazy about the tiny box and less than happy about me taking a photo of him in it. 😂 Every crew member we encountered was absolutely wonderful and extremely accommodating. Thanks you all all so much for all of your help and encouragement!

Thanks you all all so much for all of your help and encouragement! Boaz, Paparazzi is nothing for you to handle!!!!! I'm so glad that your cruise was a good one. It's a lot more work to travel with our wonderful dogs but once you're onboard and you've grabbed your first "foo-foo" drink and laid back on a lounge chair, it's all so worth it! I will NEVER travel without my Service Dog and, of course, that includes cruising. Although the potty box is really sufficient for our "big" dogs, they do look a bit put-out when they have to use them. When is your next cruise? And, when you plan a cruise that is at least 14 days long, you will be even more relaxed and comfortable. Thank you for sharing the wonderful pictures with all of us! mmarq1992 Posted March 12, 2019 #20644 Share Posted March 12, 2019 So we (my mom & I, and Bentley of course) have 2 upcoming cruises, a 3 night to the Bahamas in the beginning of April and a 7 night to Alaska towards the end of May. We also just found out last week that my dad has cancer. Obviously my dad comes first, but we were still a bit worried about the fate of our cruises, not only because we enjoy them, but we also have a lot of (non-refundable) money into them. We found out today that my dad's surgery should be scheduled perfectly in between both of them. It'll be great to have one cruise to prepare us for all to come, and then another cruise to de-stress after going through a tough surgery with my dad. Just the excitement of our upcoming cruises has been helping my mom & I get through all of this already!

I miss you! 💖 Sorry for being away so long. Work and home have been crazy for a while now. We still have our cruise booked for May 2020. As of now we will not be able to take Gretel. We can't find a USDA Vet in our area. The one we had has been out on disability for two years with a back problem. And no one else in the practice wants to step up and get the certification required. But in a way it's OK. We went to Tortola with Orson and it wasn't good. We were chased out of many shops and we got dirty looks by the locals on the streets. Our puppy in training, Winchester just turned a year old. He is by far the most challenging puppy yet. But we just keep working with him and hoping for the best. And of course Bentley is a huge help as well, when we got the bad news, he broke his under to come comfort me and lick away the tears. Caribbean Chris Posted March 14, 2019 #20649 Share Posted March 14, 2019 (edited) Dennis, Winchester certainly gets lots of points for cuteness! That look on his face says, "what do you mean by 'challenging puppy,' dad?" Here's a picture of Raylene's boyfriend Firenze (a yellow Lab CCI Hearing Dog from the Orlando campus) when he came over to our house for a play date last week. We have a fenced back yard, and the two doggies ran like the wind out there. We loved watching them, especially when they both ran with ends of the same toy in their mouths. Firenze's mom, Pat, said "This is the best day of Firenze's life. It's like he's gone to Disneyland!" Needless to say, we're all looking forward to another play date soon, and - fingers crossed - we may be keeping Firenze for five days if Pat goes on a trip in May. Here's a photo of tuckered-out 7 year-old Raylene, and bright-eyed 2 year-old Firenze waiting for the next round of chasing.
