NCL Mastercard FAQ

Carmelita- Yes, I think that will be sufficient. Take that email with you when you cruise and visit the purser's desk part way through the cruise to verify that they have it credited to your onboard account.

(Don't try to go to the purser's desk- AKA guest services- on the first day- too hectic! Also, do it on a "work day" for NCL headquarters in case the ship needs to contact the main office.)

Carmelita--

NO, I do not think that an email is sufficient. I tried that very thing last year on the Jade, and since the OBC had not been credited to my onboard account, they did nothing for me. And as to the ship "contacting the main office", they refused to do so or do anything out of the usual routine, which was to check the onboard account. That is one of the reasons that I no longer sail with NCL.

I have had many, many contacts with NCL over this and they have done absolutely nothing to satisfy their debt to me of a piddling $100. So I take my several thousands of dollars each year to other cruise lines.

How long does it take for OBC to be on your account, and how do you actually use it on your next cruise?

I applied for NCL Mastercard to receive free 15,000 points - or $150 OBC - which I have already made my 1st purchase -how do I "get it" to use on my cruise leaving 2/26/12?

Sorry if I missed an answer if it was posted earlier, but with the recent bro-ha-ha over "NCL OBC" (as opposed to TA OBC") is Bank of America (BOA) credit card point redemption "NCL OBC" and not to be used as OBC for daily service charged (DSC) or is it considered BOA OBC and can be used for the DSC?

Thanks

Just returned from a great cruise on the Gem. Our $50 credit from redeeming points on our BOA credit card came through without any problem. It was listed as a World Points credit (rather than saying BOA). It was also not listed as non-refundable.

We did have some OBC that were clearly listed as non-refundable. We also received a letter in our cabin explaining that those credits (not the World Points) were non-refundable, so I can't imagine that anyone would be surprised on the last day! We do check our charges frequently during the cruise (on the TV) to make sure that nothing strange has happened (like the $14,000+ charge that appeared during a previous cruise - yes, it was a mistake and they cleared it before we had time to pick ourselves up off the floor and run to Guest Services).

I know this is a thread for the NCL Master Card, but many pages back, they were discussing other options for better deals on credit cards for travel.

Here may be the best deal out there:

a Chase Sapphire Card. If you spend $3000 during the first 3 months you get enough points to get (ready for this) $625 back, either cash or towards travel.

http://www.chasesapphire.com/?CELL=6RRW&MSC=IQ35084228&jp_cmp=cc/03BRSapphireExact/sea/na/Chase&Sapphire

We have gotten it, and used it, and there are no gimmicks.

There is a annual fee of $95, but the first year is waived, so you can get it and cancel after the first year.

Cheers

Len

Hi,Giant Fan...

Have You tried to book any travel thru Ultimate rewards...and if so were the prices competitive with other booking options?

The rewards seem like a good deal so the skeptic in me wants to find the bad side of the deal.

Thanks

Geo

Thank you for everyone's help and advice! I ended up redeeming my 15,000 points for a $120 check, rather than hoping/praying that a $150 onboard credit would show up. I wimped out, but prefer the sure $120 than a maybe $150 :D

After this experience though, I will never get another credit card from Bank of America. Every experience online I had with them from application to enrollment/activation to online banking to redemption has been atrocious. I don't want to call in for every transaction and they'd save a lot of money on phone calls by improving their online experience, ugh.

I have a Norwegian Master Card and was wondering if I open a second card will I still receive the $150 opening bonus on the second one?

I think those first time offers are just that, for your first time having the card. Now if your spouse gets one, that's another story, and I think would qualify for the $150 opening bonus.

Had a friend who'd had a certain card with that kind of reward years ago. She canceled the card so she didn't have to pay an annual fee. Then laSt year she decided she wanted to accumulate points for that reward and they would not even let her open a new account! So read the fine print to be sure.

The only cash/check reward that pays the full value of your points is the $250 or higher category. That's what I'm working on now.

When I called to have my points redeemed as OBC, the person I talked to made a point to tell me that it was not refundable and could not be used for the daily service charge. She said it more than once so I figured that it had been an issue

I just called NCL today regarding our 2 x $100 BoA award certificates for onboard credit. We also have a $75 OBC form the original booking. She confirmed 3 times that the 2 x $100 OBC's WERE eligible to be applied against the DSC. Only $25 of the original $75 booking OBC was NOT eligible to be applied against the DSC. We sail in 3 weeks so I will post back and let you know what actually happened! I just don't want to leave any of the OBC's on the table!

I would also like to know the easiest way to make sure the obc is available for me to use when I get on the ship in 7 days. I keep getting the run around.

Thanks for any advice.

HELP!

Ok, I think I was an idiot and didn't read properly when I signed up for this card two weeks ago for a $150 credit.

The moment I got the card, I purchased two shore excursions on it that came to $300. I ASSUMED, like other cards, I would see $150 credit put on my CREDIT CARD statement when I got it because I had used it to purchase from NCL.

My cruise is in a week, long before my first statement even closes and I get those 15,000 points credited to my account. How do I make this work?? Certainly I cant' ask for my $150 onboard credit next week before it's even credit to my account and my cruise will be over by the time it is.

Please don't tell me I have to take ANOTHER cruise to use those points for an onboard credit. I was counting on that $150 bonus... but it seems to not work like I thought.

I am not sure there is any way for us to help...it seems highly unlikely that you will the $150 OBC on next week's cruise, but you could go online and sign into your account to see if the points are there or not. If not, you could request cash back in the future, but other posters have stated that is best done at 25,000 points=$250.

If you are hopelessly over budget, you could cancel the shore excursions.

NO, we are not over budget. However, we only booked our cruise a few weeks ago and they have been sending endless e-mails for us to sign up for the NCL MasterCard so we'd "enjoy a $150 onboard credit". Well, we opened the card early this month and immediately charged our shore excursions.

I looked online and our first statement won't "cut" until we are back from the cruise and there is nothing posted for points (I wouldn't expect that until the first statement)

It just disappointing to open this card (which I didn't need) to get $150 savings on THIS cruise that I now won't be getting. I can't ask for a $150 credit when my account won't show points until we're home.

Yes, there seem to be ways to request cash that I can apply toward the balance or a gift card (of about $100 with 15,000 points) but that is just now how I understood. I was certain I got the card, I purchase our excursions, they later credit the CARD with $150. I seemed to have missed the whole "must be used onboard during the cruise" part of I would have realized there was no time.

Sad.

Once the points post to your account you can use them to get cash back as a statement credit on your account, even after the cruise. You do not have to earn the points on board. You do not have to be on board to get a statement credit you can request it anytime once the points show up on your statement.

If you want to redeem your points for OBC call 1-866-954-4077. That is the number for NCL World Points redemtion center.

Everything was done in 10 minutes and a e-mail update of my reservation showing the OBC on it was received.

Update:

Just got off the Jewel and the $100 OBC was on my statement!!:):):):):)

I have a silly question... I just got the ncl credit card. How can I check how many points I have? I know I can multiply my monthly purchases to figure it out, but does it say it anywhere? I havent gotten my first statement yet, and I don't see it online.

Thanks,

Not silly at all. I got tripped up when I opened my NCL MasterCard also.

I applied for and received it about four weeks before my cruise with the offer of a "$150 Onboard Credit" for applying... or the points to get that much of a credit.

Well, it was only after I got the card I realized I would get the points to redeem for a $150 Onboard Credit when my first statement closed.. when I was already back home from my cruise. Not exactly useful!

I got my first statement and while I did not want a $150 onboard credit as this point (my next voyage is in 2013), I was able to redeem my points for $125 MasterCard gift card with some left over. I will do a few tricks to turn that gift card into cash I can apply to my balance, which is charges from my cruise... hense almost getting the $150 off my onboard charges as intended.

Next time, I need to read! I applied a month late.

I am not a big gambler, but each cruise a redeem 5000 points for $100 in slot play. I feel I get a lot of bang for my points that way as have a little fun on the slots and (so far) I have walked away from the casino further ahead than if I had taken $50 in OBC for my 5000 points.

Please accept apoligies if this has been asked and answered. If I want to use my points for OBC do I have to make my reservation through the perfered Bank Of America TA?

I understand I have to use their TA if I want to use the points to go towards the purchace price of the cruise.

No, you do NOT have to book with them. I recently booked with NCL and just called the World points redemstion center at 1-866-954-4077. They will take care of this for you and send you an e-mail to verify.

The OBC will show up on your invoice.

Just got off the Jewel and the credit was there.

Book your cruise first, then call BOA.

You can use any travel agent you like or just call NCL to book.
