Heathrow to Southampton ???

Did anyone do a cruise out of Southampton and arrive at Heathrow? Does RCI do shuttle service from this airport or only Gatwick? Anyone do any transportation from airport to Southampton?

Most cruise companies offer transfers to any airport of London. In any case, you have also the buses of National Express. They are less expensive and you can buy the tickets in Internet.

hi joyce, as the above poster said national express go from heathrow to southampton, we have tickets with them for september after our transatlantic to new york. we return to heathrow but our car will be parked up at the docks southampton from which we sail. i cant remember the price exactly but i think it was about £23 or £29 for the two of us. i believe its about an hour and half by coach with a quick stop at winchester. we got our tickets on-line as well. hope this helps:)

We used National Express several times on our recent cruise. I sincerely hope you are doing a stopover in London the night before, because you are going to be one pooped pup doing an international flight, then the bus to Southampton all at one time.

 

Here's what we did, and it worked very, very well for us:

 

Heathrow to London on National Express goes to Victoria. This bus terminal is about 1.5 blocks from the Tube/train Victoria station.

 

We stayed about 4 blocks down Belgrave Road at the Luna and Simone hotel. Look it up on tripadvisor.com; it has RAVE reviews (including mine!!). Very reasonably priced, too. Lovely people own/run it.

 

Anyway, then you can use the Tube to do a little sighteeing if you aren't too jet lagged (we spent 2 nights in London).

 

Then, the day of the cruise we walked back to National Express, and got on the bus for Southampton.

 

In Southampton, catch a taxi right outside the bus station to the cruise terminal. About 5 - 10 minutes; cost is about 5 GBP.

 

The cost for all of this was $374 for two people, two nights, not including food. This includes ALL our transpo Heathrow - London - Southampton, AND the hotel for two nights.

 

Check for funfares on the National Express web site. We went Heathrow - London - Southampton for $18 US total for two of us!!!!

As others have said National Express run a broadly hourly service from Heathrow to Southampton. Current standard fare is 13.80 GBP per person. Sometimes promotional fares are available for a few pounds.

Strictly according to regulations of fare you are only allowed 2 cases either of which cannot weigh more than 20kg. In practise this is not implemented that strictly but don't go blatently over the top.

The length of journey to Southampton is around 90 minutes against 30-60 minutes for getting to a London hotel.

 

If you do go into London its worth exploring Megatrain for the London to Southampton fare. Discounted fares are made available daily here as low as 4 GBP to Southampton by train. Much faster and often cheaper than the bus with no luggage restrictions and better space to move around on most journeys.

 

A private car from Heathrow to Southampton prebooked should be no more than 140 GBP.
