SeaDog-46 Posted July 16, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2007 With the recent storm damage to Pacific Star - thought the attached photos of Carnival Ecstacy on the edge of hurricane Rita would be relavant. Sorry if repeating previous posting. Although the photos show gale force winds & rough seas they are not as bad as would have been experienced by Pacific Star the other night. It is very difficult to get photos of cyclonic winds as visibility is greatly reduced. John
Star-Man Posted July 16, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 16, 2007 Ive seen those ones before. Its crazy just how much movement can happen out at sea. There is those ones and a few others on this site, http://www.nedcruise.info/storm.htm
SeaDog-46 Posted July 16, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted July 16, 2007 Hi Sam - re movement - The photos are of 30-40 deg. rolls & are extreme. Containers go over the side & everything not lashed down flies to the lowest level. Compare this to the uproar on Grand Princess outside Galveston last year when it rolled 10-15 deg. while turning. kaseyoz Posted July 16, 2007 #4 Share Posted July 16, 2007 I am sure there were no passengers on board the ecstacy when those photos were taken. I think that is what i read before anyway
CScottRun Posted July 16, 2007 #5 Share Posted July 16, 2007 I am sure there were no passengers on board the ecstacy when those photos were taken. I think that is what i read before anyway I was told it was only crew members on board, since it was being re-routed in order to avoid Rita... Brushtail Posted July 16, 2007 #6 Share Posted July 16, 2007 Yeah, yeah. We have our own 'roll'. :p This is the Pacific Sun at the Isle of Pines in June last year during perfect weather at 7am. Ask Pommiepom and Icemaiden what it was like, they were on board too. :D :D It was just a couple of rogue waves that came out of nowhere and Phil and I saw them coming when we were up on deck and we were hanging on and woo-hooing. Unfortunately there was damage and devastation below decks as everything went flying. We diverted to Noumea instead. The pictures turned out great. :)

That morning she rolled off the bed and into the hall way cabin boy was very worried about missis next door for the rest of the cruise!
SeaDog-46 Posted July 18, 2007 Author #8 Share Posted July 18, 2007 Great photos of your roll. from what you said that there were only 2 rolls in good weather - they were probably caused by an underwater eruption near Tonga where there are several under sea volcanoes. ie a tsunami sp? We got hit by one of them on the Star when i was on the bridge tour. They wernt as bad, because there wasnt really any damage below decks. Didnt get any photos though, we were all too busy picking ourselves up off the floor :D
