Bad Spirit Reviews?

What is up with the Spirit? Five of the last six reviews have really dinged the Spirit. The Spirit has never been criticized so harshly. Is there a new crew on board? Are they overselling the ship? Any ideas on what is going on? It concerns me because we have reservations on the Spirit at Xmas.

Keep in mind, people who feel they need to vent are far more likely to post about it than people who have a great time.

I have been guilty of not posting when everything has been great... I was on the Spirit for the second time in December, and it was fabulous, but of course i didn't think about posting a review at the time because I was so content with my trip :) I am confident that the Spirit is doing just fine, and so much so I am going on here two more times this fall! :)

Your trip should be great :)

I've sailed Dawn, Crown and Spirit. Crown used to be my favorite ship, but the Spirit is mine now. I LOVED it! The food on Spirit was the best out of four cruises.. there was so much to do.. and it was just great.

Now.. consider I'm saying all that when it rained every day of my cruise! I still had a blast.

Go, you'll have a great time!

Did Spirit in May out of NYC and can't really think of any earth shattering things to complain about. Maybe the weather!? Was that NCL's fault? Some people are never happy. They should stay home.:)

I read the reviews also. I noticed that all of the Bahamas people were very positive and the Bermuda people were not. Maybe it was a bad week. I am going on both back to back in August, I'll see if there is a difference.

If you read the reviews you will see that 3 of them came from the same family. Also, one of the biggest complaints by another was that they forced her husband to buy long pants for the dinning room because he had only packed shorts. I refuse to let these ruin my upcoming trip.

I hope the responses set your mind at ease. 3 people from the same family? That tells you something and another who didn't want to wear long pants.

I was also thinking that I made a mistake by booking the Spirit for Jan, 2008. This is my first cruise with NCL (sailed Princess and Carnival) so I was anxious to hear something positive about the Spirit.

I am glad to hear that the Spirit is not a mistake. Thanks for the positive feedback.

I didn't realize they were from the same family. Also the review stating about the pants should be ignored. Who goes on a cruise and does NOT know that pants are to be worn in the dining room? It's in the brochure in the Frequently Asked Questions....their fault, not NCLs. Thanks for pointing out the others were together.

I don't let other people's reviews scare me. I take in advice from reviews that will help me avoid certain things.:)

We are cruising in November from NO, I am concerned about the smoking changes. We love to hang out in casino before crashing for the night and I am thinking the casino is going to be a fog of smoke. Guess we will have to look for surgical face masks. UGH!!!!

Yes, it probably will be, but remember it is the non smokers that wanted changes. There has to be smoking somewhere. I am sure you aren't the only one, thinking this. Maybe in the near future NCl will decide on another bar for smokers. the casino will stay smoking for quite awhile I am sure.

Just read the original reviews everyone is talking about here. I was inclined to think it was a valid review until I saw the OP state they couldnt remember what they wrote. If you cant remember what you wrote, you may not have been telling the truth.

ANyway, I have read both good and bad and I think we may still be up for the Spirit. Its a little smaller ship than I would like, but we loved the Pearl so much and the whole freestyle concept that I think we may go for it. Thanks for everyones reviews...good and bad. Help me decide.

Well...I read all the reviews and I truly believe your vacation is what you make of it....I have yet to go on a cruise and have a bad time...I have been on a cruise where we had to depart port early due to Hurricane Lily in 2002 (rough seas, etc. but that just added to the excitement! IMHO)..have been on a cruise where the entertainment was just soso...but you know what...there is always something to do....Hubby and I are going on the Spirit celebrating our 30th anniversary and our intention is to go and relax .... we have our own engineering business...(most weeks working 7 days)..It will be nice to get away from the phones, the deadlines, etc., etc., etc....We are parents of 3 grown children and almost empty nesters (youngest entering senior year of college and never home!! lol) This will be the first vacation that we have been on alone since 1979 (when our son was born)...We always took our vacations together as a family every year even though we had ample opportunity over the years to get away without the children (grandparents always offered but we declined..enjoyed our family vacations together) so this cruise will be a first for us ... I refuse to let the negative reviews impact my vacation....and if the restaurants aren't up to par as some posters lead us to believe...oh well...it still beats shopping, preparing and cooking and cleaning that we do at home...For the money one pays to cruise ....I feel it is the best value for one's money!!!:D

I've been on these boards long enough to not let the negative reviews upset me too much. I once sailed CCL Miracle and had one of my best cruises ever. Another woman came back from the same cruise, the same week and her review was entirely negative. I couldn't believe we were on the same ship!

I'm sailing NCL Spirit in November. I have read the reviews of that ship for over a year because we booked that cruise over a year ago, and the majority of reviews have been great. The percentage of bad ones is so small in comparison that I'm definitely not going to lose sleep over them. No cruise is flawless, but my motto is not to sweat the small stuff, and unless we have a Poseidon Adventure, I'm going to be quite content. :)

I sailed the Spirit on an 8 day last August. Sailing the Spirit again this Sunday, July 29th. I have no complaints about this ship. No seating by the pool was probably the worst thing of the whole cruise, but then I found a seat away from the pool...no biggy. My son (16) also likes the ship and is excited about going again. I found the crew to be friendly, the food to be decent, the entertainment to be good and overall I found the Spirit to be a great ship!...Sharon :)

Unless someone was forced into the lifeboats...everything on a one week cruise can't be BAD! I guess you have to consider the source & take it with a grain of salt. Went on Spirit in May & had a great cruise, lousey weather, but a great cruise.:)
