Sourcepsc Posted May 12, 2008 #76 Share Posted May 12, 2008 I have not been on here for a while! I was starting to look for information for the Navigator since we just booked the March 23 2009 cruise and found your postings. Thanks for the information! Are the dry dock schedules fairly solid? I see she is in for dry dock up to Feb and just was curious if that is normally fairly accurate?

I hope that this time the rumor is correct but similar ones have been floating about for quite some time and have yet to come to fruition. I don't believe that a drydock would be required, especially if they convert the current card room to a CL as they did on the Legend and Splendour since there was not even any plumbing work required. Installation of a keyed door is about all that would be necessary, if the outer walls of the room are already there. :) If they do Grandeur, can Vision and Rhapsody be far behind.;)

CuteTheta Posted July 15, 2008 #97 Share Posted July 15, 2008 Does anyone happen to know what would cause a ship to be "out for maintenance" for just 1 cruise? I am booked on the 3/2/2009 Grandeur Cruise with a group. I did my daily check for lower prices today and noticed that all cabin categories said N/A. I called RCCL and all they would tell me is that the ship is "closed for maintenance". Both agents that I spoke with stated that they didnt know if the ship wasnt sailing or if it was a computer maintenance issue. has anyone experienced this before or know what this might mean. I have experienced it before...and it is not a good sign. Sometimes it means the ship has been chartered, or it looked like that with Empress when it was leaving the the fleet. :o those are rare things...so I would keep up a positive outlook, and consider that it is probably just a computer glitch or re-sort and it should be back up in a few days. :D There's some sort of student Music thing going on...so maybe it is just temporary. Link is here: http://www.musfestivals.com/cf/cruisefestivals.htm But you should probably post the question on the main board...so we don't clutter Alexis's Drydock thread. Sorry Alex. :)

A drydock does not necessarily require taking the ship out of service for more than just one cruise. A lot will depend on the level of maintenance that will be required and the amount of time required to complete that work. An example of this would be the upcoming drydocking of the Jewel of the Seas in October when the diesel generator will be repaired. It appears that it will only require RCI to cancel one 5 night Boston/Canada cruise and the ship will be back in service and on its regular schedule. There can be any number of reasons that the website will show a ship as being unavailable, including a chartering or a cancellation, or even a problem with the website. Unfortunately, the CSRs are not always aware of what is going on, and some have been known to be rather inventive in explaining situations when they don't know the facts.
