Credit card query, need help.

Our first Princess cruise is in 50 days and I am about to enter my credit card number so I can print our cruise documents. I have read on here about a $300 hold put on the card. Is this put on when you embark or when you enter your card number in the cruise personaliser? Also is it straight forward to print the documents? Sorry if this all sounds dumb but we have never sailed on Princess before. Also is it $300 per person or per cabin?
