She is a wonderful lady-she has written me back very promptly answering all my questions. She never made me feel like I was a bother. She has been so accomadating.

I urge others to contact her-she will try to work with you.

Hi floridalady

I phoned Sarah at Glory Tours this morning and had a great conversation. We're going to book a tour with her (depending on the price). When I told her I had read such nice things about Glory on cruise critic; she mentioned she was working with another CC poster...must have been you:) Hope you have a nice tour. We're really looking forward to ours.

She put up with alot from me and my questions.lol

when are you going?what are you planning?

I am excited because I wanted to see so much but most tour operators did not want to work with me-told me it was too much in there time frame ---but we worked it out!

I agree with you...we do not want to be stuck in a huge bus just driving around! We only have a few things on our list for now. I'm disappointed Harrison Caves will be closed but we will see caves in Puerto Rico. Sarah is going to email an itinerary with some things she thinks our family will enjoy. My husband lived in Barbados for a couple years as a very young child so we are going to revisit where he used to live. Plus Earthworks, Garrison, Wildlife Preserve and maybe the Concorde jet. Sarah thought the boys would get a thrill seeing that and she is going to find out if it would be possible. I asked her to find a good, fun local place for lunch that serves flying fish.

What's on your list?

Flying fish for lunch? Almost ANYplace, seriously: it's standard fare, here.

Earthworks? Imaginative pottery: my wife works at the Earthworks complex,

at a little art gallery and souvenir store called On The Way Art Gallery.

Most visitors to Earthworks drop in on her,

and also the small TreeTops Restaurant right next to her.

Concorde? I'm told the admission is around $15-20 U.S.currency,

but it's quite a tour(including a simulator??) and well worth the cost!

I am going next year and I know my husband would love the caves so we hit there first-Harrison.I also want to go to North Point -I hear the view is fantastic -where Atlantic and Caribbean meet.I want to go to Bathsheba and see other sights-hit a beach and have a bite and a drink would hit the spot.

When are you going?

You better tell me everything you do.lol

How old are your kids?Where else are you going?

:) Sarah really works with you doesnt she?

I cant tell you how pleased i am.

Hi where is the Concorde located?

At the airport.

As you drive into the Terminal area

it's over on your left - to the East of where you drive in.

I've never done the tour

(I just see the big 'tent' they erected to shelter it)

but I'm sure you'll find your way in to the exhibit.

floridalady,

I believe you will enjoy your choice in Glory Tours.... We were there in May of this year and were hoping that we would meet up with Sarah.... Things didn't work out for us that day but we had a great tour anyway... We did the Explore and Discover Barbado's Tour.... Were in a nice van with 2 other couples, weren't crowded or rushed at any of our stops.... Sarah was worling on getting a permit to do a different type of tour, looks like she was successful.....

Have a great cruise.....

Yes, flying fish is standard fare in Barbados but not where we are from :) The kids love fish and want to try it. We like casual / rustic / fun places for lunch. Do you have any reccomendations? Even better if it's somewhere we could have a quick swim before continuing onwards.

floridalady -

our kids are 10, 14, and 17. So I'm trying to find a mix of things for us to do without rushing from place to place and boring them. Did that last year in Europe;)

Even better if it's somewhere we could have a quick swim before continuing onwards. =====>> NOT on the East Coast! it's scenic but dangerous.

One word. ATLANTIS Hotel, over on the East Coast.

Not much of a Hotel, but a great place to have a thoroughly-local lunch.

It's one of the few places on the island where you'll get Pumpkin Fritters

and Spinach Balls.

Flying Fish WILL be there guaranteed (standard fare!)

and generally their food is yummy.

Cruisers go thru there all the time, since it's a popular coach-tours stop for lunch,

in fact I hope you phone first to make reservations,

- it's that popular some days.

Wednesday and Sunday are their Buffet days, I believe,

all other days it's an order-from-the-menu affair.

Swimming over on the East Coast is NOT recommended

unless you are with a local, who will swim with you, in a known-safe place,

usually at a place called Cattlewash

(about a mile away from Atlantis over at Tent Bay).

Cattlewash is where the local whites have holiday houses

(becoz it's a relatyively safe place to swim) and even so,

the sand bars are changeable

and your best bet is to watch where the local guys are swimming in the surf

and don't go out any further than they do.

We lose a few (European, usually) tourists every year,

because they simply will not heed the several signs -in many languages-

that are posted up and down the East Coast.

Take these East Coast warnings seriously!

Swimming on the WEST Coast is entirely another, much safer, matter.

Frankly, you should swim on the W.Coast

and leave the East Coast for taking pix and that Atlantis lunch,

where their desserts often include a Coconut Cake/Pie thing and Rum Cake

(glad you're not doing the driving!)

What do you think of Sand Dunes as a lunch spot?

Sand Dunes....hmmm..

The Wife reminded me of our quick stop there for a refresher drink.

It's in the hokey Belleplaine area.

Belleplaine's a small township at the Northern end of our East Coast Road.

It's a bar, and they serve food too but it's hardly a Restaurant...

-it's kinda 'local' although it does attempt to cater to everyone passing thru that area.

It's neat and clean, painted a dark green(which attracts heat)

I guess they do a few tourists too, but you'd probably want to head on to ATLANTIS

at the Southern end of the East Coast Road, for lunch...a real nice lunch!

My biggest gripe with Sand Dunes is that because it has a dark-colored roof and sides,

it can get hot and sticky after ten mins. or so. (I feel the heat: maybe you don't)

By all means stop in for a drink, but I wouldn't exactly recommend it as a prime lunch spot,

unless you're one of those European types who revel in doing 'very local' things.

Sand Dunes is okay...just not great?

- it's not airconditioned, and not particularly breezy

Hope this helps you,

but -for Lunch- stay focused on scenic, breezy Atlantis, in Tent Bay (near Bathsheba)

and you will not be disappointed.

I had heard some great things about Glory tours also, so I booked Sarah for our NCL Dawn cruise in Feb. Unfortunately things didn't work out so well for us. Our itinerary had gotten changed a few days before our cruise and our times in Barbados were going to be different. I had emailed Sarah as soon as I had found out, but didn't hear from her. We had already prepaid our tour so I was a bit nervous about this. When we arrived in Barbados and finally got off the ship, she was nowhere to be found. We found out from another cab driver that she had already left on her tour with other people who had arrived on a different ship. I contacted her by cell phone, and she told me that it would be another 45 minutes until she could come back for us. I had a very bad taste in my mouth after this, and since we didn't want to wait for another 3/4 hour for her, we booked a cab driver to take us for a tour of the island. We did see Glory Tours van along our stops. I was very disappointed in the way Sarah handled our situation, especially since I had emailed her as soon as I found out that our itinerary had changed. When we got back from our cruise, we had to contact Sarah a few times before we finally received our refund for the tour. I will not be booking another tour with them. We will be in Barbados in November, and I am looking for another tour operator.

Let me add that we have booked many tours that we had heard about on cc and have never been disappointed before.

  • 4 weeks later...

Anyone taken a tour with Glorytours recently??

We just booked a private tour around Barbados, lunch, see the monkeys and snorkeling from a glass bottom boat for this coming Feb.

Just wondered if there was any updates.

Thanks.
