kken67 Posted August 1, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 1, 2007 I know how stupid this question is going to sound but anyway - Is the Independence finished yet and is there any chance it might not sail. Just read another thread not about this ship but it mentioned the ship sank in dry dock and was delayed sailing by a year!! Is this likely to happen to us, we have just booked for 26th July 2008 but havent a clue about cruisng so forgive daft questions
cb at sea Posted August 1, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 1, 2007 If the ship sinks in dry-dock, you'll be happy not to sail on her! No--I doubt that will happen! If it does, they will give you the chance to book a different (more "floatable" )ship!
Monkey10 Posted August 1, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 1, 2007 There is no water.
cot427 Posted August 1, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 1, 2007 I know. If it is in dry dock, there is not water, therefore, it could not sink. Duh!
kken67 Posted August 1, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted August 1, 2007 dont ask me, didnt understand the term in the first place lol, just want everything to be perfect, first cruise and rediculously excited already even though a year off. Should calm down shortly but then again maybe not!
Monkey10 Posted August 1, 2007 #6 Share Posted August 1, 2007 ...when Aliso Viejo CA almost banned styrofoam cups because they contained a chemical called dihydrogen monoxide. Dihydrogen monoxide can be very dangerous, even deadly, if used improperly. Click here to see hazards of dihydrogen monoxide. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dihydrogen_monoxide_hoax Have fun! kken67 Posted August 1, 2007 Author #7 Share Posted August 1, 2007 Thanks Monkey, enjoyed that! Quite worrying really as i am a teacher and am sure i would have been very easily taken in by that one. What hope have my students got. Cant help it, being blond and dizzy is quite natural to me, think gullible should have been my middle name! I would want my children to have a teacher with those attributes. Keep On Keeping On!!
pegatha Posted August 1, 2007 #10 Share Posted August 1, 2007 That actually happened to the NCL Pride of America because we were booked to sail on her and she sank during a storm in Germany while being built. In service now but we did not sail her. Don't know it that's the ship referenced or not. This happened in January 2004.
Monkey10 Posted August 1, 2007 #11 Share Posted August 1, 2007 The storm flooded the dock then? That's an awful lot of water.
pegatha Posted August 1, 2007 #12 Share Posted August 1, 2007 The storm flooded the dock then? That's an awful lot of water. No it had been floated but the construction was not complete (about 6 months away). I don't know all the marine terminology but just expressed a situation I was familiar with about a cruise ship sinking "in dry dock" and not sailing for another year. cruiserbryce Posted August 1, 2007 #13 Share Posted August 1, 2007 haven't heard anything...likely not completed yet and like everyone else...how can a ship sink in dry dock...
FreewayFortune Posted August 1, 2007 #14 Share Posted August 1, 2007 Hopefully she'll be finished on time with no major problems. I hope to cruise on her next August:)
negc Posted August 2, 2007 #15 Share Posted August 2, 2007 Independence is the third in the series and the first two ships were completed and sailed on schedule. The shipyard has a good history of on-time completion so there is little or no reason to believe that Independence will be any different.:)

warringtonian Posted August 2, 2007 #17 Share Posted August 2, 2007 Presumably when you want to get a ship out of dry dock you have to flood the dock first, so the ship could then sink.
