melissasneu Posted May 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2004 Debating if we should rent car but only if parking near attractions is not a problem. Public trans is fine with us but mobility is somewhat an issue between bus stops and attractions if there are long distances. For those that have visited would you rent a car? Budget Queen Posted May 17, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2004 Parking downtown is difficult, but the reason for a car is to get out of town. Close parking at Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska U (Chapel on the lake). Stl. Theresa's but you have quite a walk across the spit if you have limitations. If you want another good option- go with one of the city/glacier bus tours. MGT runs one for about $20pp and wonderful commentary- especially good for a first timer. If you do go the car rental route- be certain to VERIFY if they include a downtown shuttle, some do not, a cab would add at least $30+++rt. As for their public transportation- again where do you want to go? The bus stop is over a level mile from Mendenhall, a short walk from Glacier Gardens, right out front the hatchery and Fred Meyer.
