traveller333 Posted August 8, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2007 I just read this on the Crystal board . I'm sorry that Regent enacted such an abrupt new smoking policy which is alinating smokers. Crystal's Smoking Policy: ********************************************** Beginning July 15, 2007 Staterooms Cigarette smoking in staterooms and on balconies will be permitted. Non-smoking guests concerned about sailing in a stateroom that may have been previously occupied by a smoking guest should be advised of the following: Staterooms with smokers will be deep-cleaned after disembarkation. Ionizers and carpet freshener will be used to rid the stateroom of the smell of smoke Bedspreads will be dry cleaned and replaced. If the stateroom was previously occupied with heavy smokers, drapes, pillows and other upholstery will be dry cleaned and the walls wiped down and carpets will be steam cleaned as necessary. Cigar and pipe smoking in staterooms and on balconies will be prohibited. Indoor Spaces All interior venues, with the exception of the enclosed cigar bars and the casino, will be non-smoking. Smoking will be prohibited in all restaurants, bars, theatres, meeting rooms, restrooms, corridors, stairwells and lobbies. Cigarette smoking in the casino will be permitted. Cigarette, cigar and pipe smoking will be permitted in enclosed cigar bars. Outdoor Spaces Cigarette, cigar and pipe smoking will be permitted in outdoor public guest spaces and open decks, where designated by ship’s management, based on the ship’s specific characteristics. No smoking will be permitted in or near venues serving food, the jogging track, outdoor sporting venues and children’s pool areas. Ship’s management may also prohibit outdoor smoking at certain times such as during safety drills, tendering operations or while refueling. Iamboatman Posted August 8, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2007 From what I hear and see, Regent may just be slightly ahead of what is going to be pretty much industry-wide within a year or so.
traveller333 Posted August 8, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted August 8, 2007 Iamboatman, I'm sure you're probably correct. I for one would have enjoyed cruising with Regent an additional year though.
Iamboatman Posted August 8, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 8, 2007 I am not a smoker, so I can't totally appreciate the issue, though I know many. I would think that just as with aircraft, then restaurants, then bars, then...most smokers would/could find a way to find a compromise in lifestyle that doesn't foreclose any cruise line just because of this one issue. It is, I am sure, wishful thinking. Best of luck.
Jimpeyton Posted August 8, 2007 #5 Share Posted August 8, 2007 Well what practically ruined my Silversea cruise was the fact that cigarette smoke was diffusing/leaking into my cabin. I hate cigarette smoke! It was not coming thru from the balcony or cabin entrance, it was coming thru the walls. Instead of waking up to clean air, it was nasty smoke. I felt invaded and very mad. Of all places, your own cabin should be your refuge from cigarette smoke. There is no logic to allowing smoking in cabins if its able to diffuse into adjacent cabins. To help smokers understand there nasty habit, I would be resting peacefully in my cabin (on a sea day, enjoying my vacation,) and all of sudden I would smell cigarette smoke. This would literally turn my good mood into a sour angry one. Again I felt invaded. I applaud Regent.
nancygp Posted August 8, 2007 #6 Share Posted August 8, 2007 I don't know where the original poster got his/her info but Crystal hasn't changed their policy in almost a year. Here is what Crystal has currently on their website. Nancy Smoking Policy At Crystal Cruises, we recognize that some of our guests smoke and others do not. Therefore, the living environment on our ships is designed to satisfy everyone. Most areas of the ships are non-smoking. There are designated smoking and non-smoking tables in most bars and lounges (except The Bistro, inside the Lido Café, the Crystal Dining Room, Prego, Jade Garden, Silk Road and The Sushi Bar restaurants and the Galaxy Lounge, which are entirely smoke-free). Pipes and cigars are permitted only in the Connoisseur Club, and on the "open decks," except all areas of Lido Deck (deck 11 on Crystal Symphony, and deck 12 on Crystal Serenity). Pipes and cigars may not be smoked in guest penthouses, staterooms, on verandahs or in corridors. Crystal Cruises kindly asks its guests to observe the non-smoking areas, which have been created for the comfort and enjoyment of everyone on board. DaveFr Posted August 8, 2007 #7 Share Posted August 8, 2007 Nancy, The reason you can't find the smoking policy posted by the OP on the Crystal site is because it is a NCL smoking policy. :) See message 47 at: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=585969. nancygp Posted August 9, 2007 #8 Share Posted August 9, 2007 Dave, thanks for the clarification. I have sailed Crystal many times and feel I know quite alot about Crystal. Hence, I wanted to make sure that the info was accurate and from the source! Nancy
traveller333 Posted August 9, 2007 Author #9 Share Posted August 9, 2007 My apologies for any confusion. I did take this off the Crystal message board so assumed they were referring to Crystal without reading more closely that it was actually NCL.
