Best Western Newark New Jersey

I asked this question awhile back because I was looking for a one night stay and a ride to the port. I had heard that the area where the hotel is located is a little sketchy and you probably wouldn't want to be out running around. I was somewhat hesitant to book, but after receiving the responses below, went ahead and got a room at the BW. The park and cruise for 2 is $155 and for 4 people it's $195

Here is the website:

"We stayed at the BW a year ago in June. We had no problems at all. I am going to give you possible pros and cons and you can decide.

Pros

The rooms were nice, recently redone

The people at the hotel were great, very kind

You park for free for 10 days, longer than that is a reasonable rate.

They take you in their van to the pier. Depending on how many people are staying, they make several runs

They give you a voucher for the return trip. Once you are back at the port, you turn right go down to the end, ask about the shuttle back to the BW and they will direct you.(it is a taxi company) It is very easy

Your car is locked in a fence compound while you are gone.

Cons

This area of Newark is not the best in the world.

If you are not use to driving in NJ it is a mess. We googled our trip and went there with no problem. We went out later to eat and were lost and had a terrible time with the turn arounds. Eat before you get there. They have a very small restaurant in the BW but it wasn't open for dinner.

You drive down a street to the hotel that looks like an alley, it gave me the creepies.

You must leave your keys, this bothers some people. I checked our mileage before we left and there was no extra mileage.

I think you will have to decide what is best for you. It was fine for us."

"Stayed at the Best Western in May. Had no issues other than location. If you plan on one night and ordering food out you should have no problems. The hotel was clean and the staff very nice. The shuttle service is a big plus."

"We live in NJ and never stayed in the hotel BUT it's near (a few minutes by car)Jersey Gardens mall.

and a Ruby Tuesday restaurant. "

This came from another cruise forum rom someone who also stayed there.

"Here are my thoughts......hotel is in an industrial looking area with no stores or restaurants nearby. There is a small bar/restaurant in the hotel but it looked kind of dingy and the prices were pretty high for what they had (we had Dominoes pizza delivered). The room was huge and quite comfortable...it had an iron and ironing board, hair dryer, coffee maker, etc. The continental breakfast was good. There's a shuttle at 11 a.m. to take you to the pier and a shuttle waiting when you get off the ship. I believe the total including tax and baggage handling was about $180. Since it would have cost $105 to park at the pier I think that's a decent deal."

Hope this helps.

Saying the area is sketchy is generous. It is a dismal crime infested area.

If you are looking for bargain accommodations for one night and a place to park, you will be OK barely. It is NOT a nice area. DO NOT go walking around. Be careful walking from the parking lot to the hotel. DO NOT go wandering around the neighborhood IN YOUR CAR unless you have VERY good directions (or know where you are going).

My truck drivers will no longer stay there, as our trucks have been broken into. And too many "ladies of the evening" hanging around. Your choice!!!!
