Joanniebop Posted August 16, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2007 Dh and I will be sailing for the first time with RSSC on the Navigator in Nov. We are doing an 11 day W.Caribbean and the dress code will be 2 formal evenings and 2 informal. I will pack for him a jacket and a few dress shirts but he is disabled and there is no way he can put on a tie, nor does he care to put one on even if he were able. To the point: Just how strict is Regent in enforcing the dress codes? I understand that we may opt to have dinner in our suite and order from the same menu that is offered in the restaurant. Also, if we were able to secure reservations in the Italian restaurant on the two formal evenings would the dress code apply? Thanks Joannie
Iamboatman Posted August 16, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2007 Regent will most certainly treat a disabled person's limitations appropriately and he will be welcomed into the dining room without a problem or concern.
Joanniebop Posted August 16, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted August 16, 2007 Iamboatman, thanks so much for your reply. You have eased my mind and will make our cruise more enjoyable knowing that Regent is DB friendly.
sugarfoots_jones Posted August 16, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 16, 2007 We just finished a Navigator cruise, and my experience was that the dress code was not really "enforced" within reason. I frequently saw men sans jackets in the dining rooms in the evening in both restaurants. (Our cruise didn't have any formal nights)
Iamboatman Posted August 16, 2007 #5 Share Posted August 16, 2007 My pleasure. Enjoy yourselves!:)
Joanniebop Posted August 16, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted August 16, 2007 SugarfootsJones, thanks for your input. Unfortunately, even though we are cruising Central America and Mexico we still have 2 formal nights, and along with other disabilities, DH is blind so he won't notice any glares. But I guess he'll be OK with the jacket and dress shirt. Thanks again and thanks to you too, Iamboatman. Joannie
Goofyisme Posted August 16, 2007 #7 Share Posted August 16, 2007 Joannie, I wouldn't worry about it. RSSC is a class operation and although you will see more "dressed up" people on RSSC than on the mainstream cruiselines RSSC staff will recognize the effort and the limitations that a nice shirt and coat will indicate under your circumstances. So just sit back and relax and enjoy some wonderful pampering. Happy sailing, Keith
Joanniebop Posted August 16, 2007 Author #8 Share Posted August 16, 2007 Goofyisme, thanks for the reassurance. I am really looking forward to this trip now! Joannie
motheroftwolabs Posted August 19, 2007 #9 Share Posted August 19, 2007 I just got off the Navigator yesterday. You will be more than presently surprised if this is your first Regent cruise. I am embarrased to say we were bad guests the first few nights as my family and I did not read the dress attire for the evenings. The staff could not have been more accomodating nonetheless. I was surprised and delighted to see how nicely dressed everyone was throughout the cruise. We had cruised on Celebrity and Carnival before and it was more than apparent to us that we had really "stepped up" in picking Regent. Rooms, service and dining were exceptional, ....and noone is going to scold you for not having a jacket! Have a great trip!!!!!!!
Joanniebop Posted August 19, 2007 Author #10 Share Posted August 19, 2007 Hi Motheroftwolabs and thank you for taking the time to address my concerns for my DH's limitations in the dress department. He will not have a problem with a jacket and dress shirt, so I am pleased to hear that Regent won't have a problem either. Was wondering about the temps in the public areas? Restaurants, lounges and my personal favorite, casino? Do you think I should pack a few jackets/sweaters for evenings? I hate to be cold but don't want to pack any unnecessary clothing as I usually overpack and I have to handle all the luggage. Glad to hear that you and your family had such a great time on the Navigator. Thanks again! Joannie
Rare wishIweretravelling Posted August 19, 2007 #11 Share Posted August 19, 2007 I tend to find most of the public areas on RSSC ships to run to the cold side. The show lounge in particular tends to be quite cold. I haven't been on Navigator in a while, but I understand it's still pretty chilly.
Joanniebop Posted August 19, 2007 Author #12 Share Posted August 19, 2007 Crys, thanks for the info on the temps in the public areas, it will help immensely in planning my wardrobe for our upcoming cruise in November on the Navigator. Just like to get a heads up. Thanks Joannie
motheroftwolabs Posted August 20, 2007 #13 Share Posted August 20, 2007 I'm with Crys; it's definitely a bit on the chilly side in the common rooms. We finally learned after two days to put our thermastat/room temperature dial above the mid point (1 o'clock if dial were a clock face).
