DqALEX Posted August 21, 2007 #27 Share Posted August 21, 2007 A free cruise and a bad time?????? I could never have a bad time on a free cruise unless the ship sank, even than it would be and adventure. Always look on the bright side and you will have a happier life. FlorenceItaly Posted August 21, 2007 #28 Share Posted August 21, 2007 I consider myself a California native :). I lived there all my life(30 years) before leaving in 1993. When people ask me where I am from I say "I live in Oklahoma, but I am from California", LOL. Marie
Rare vcgeno Posted August 21, 2007 #29 Share Posted August 21, 2007 We were on the elation Aug 6-11 and had a great time. The only smoke I smelled was in the cigar bar but I could have avoided it if I did not want to smell it. We had a very easy time getting to/from Cabo. We went on the ship thinking it would be more tired then it turned out to be. I would do it again and I paid for it myself!!!!!!
bonstersd Posted August 21, 2007 #30 Share Posted August 21, 2007 I was on on the Elation (again) in June and had a great time. People smoke...what can you do. Grumpy employees...what? You mean these hard working, underpaid, underappreciated people aren't smiling and singing a happy song every hour of the 12-hour day that they are working???!!! The ship is showing her age...duh! These are things people complain about?!!! Give me a break!

wormfarmer Posted August 21, 2007 #35 Share Posted August 21, 2007 Sorry you had a bad time. I take it you are a heavy smoker and were upset that you couldn't smoke? Just light up in your cabin. That is what I did and used a glass for an ashtray. They are perfectly fine with it and you will be gone before the next person has to come in and deal with the smokey room. Plus they will spray some spray in there before the next passengers and they will be fine. Better luck next time and thanks for your honest opinions! DEcruiser1 Posted August 21, 2007 #36 Share Posted August 21, 2007 Why does one come on the Carnival boards that are full of people who really like carnival, trash Carnival, and then not expect strong oppositon to they're oppinions? Many of us have gone on other cruise lines and had bad experiences. Most people can look at certain experiences as isolated incidents. We don't allow isolated incidents to ruin our entire trips. Vacationschedule Posted August 21, 2007 #37 Share Posted August 21, 2007 I have not sailed on the Elation, but did on the Fantasy, and Sensation. Sensation is an old ship. It had some rips in the wall paper, but other than that, it was in excellent shape. I had friends who sailed on Elation before she left Port Canaveral, and they loved it. I will not sail other companies. i have only sailed Carnival, but I see no sense in paying more for a cruise line to get the same service that Carnival gives me. They were great to us all 3 times. Our only complaint got taken care of within 2 hours, and we had a wonderful time. On the PR deck, you will find a lot of smoke. As that is usually where all the bar's and the casino are. But where the cabin's are, that does not sound right. I know the Elation will soon be going in for Referb because of the new pools and the water park that are being added to the Fantasy class ships. As someone else said, DON'T GIVE UP ON CARNIVAL BECAUSE OF ONE BAD CRUISE. If everyone who ever had a bad experience on Carnival did that, then Carnival would not exist. Try the larger newer ships. You would love Glory. She is a beautiful ship and there are plenty of areas to get away from the smoke if you don't like it. How do you know that the other cruise lines are giving the same service? It's funny to read the comments of people who know everything about every other cruise lines but have only been on one. Then again if you are looking for cheap and cheap is your thing then you have found it. Also I love this comment from you. "Don't give up on Carnival because of one bad cruise. If everyone that who ever had a bad experience on Carnival did that, then Carnival would not exist". That tells a lot about Carnival right there. victory2020 Posted August 21, 2007 #38 Share Posted August 21, 2007 So you are so unhappy with Carnival that you would be pervectly willing to take another free cruise. Talk to your company and tell them you didn't like the cruise, but to please do it again. Because you would love for them to apparently waste their money on you, so you can not like it again. That's funny! I don't like RCCL & always tell people I wouldn't go on them again if it were free (why waste vacation time?).
halos Posted August 21, 2007 #39 Share Posted August 21, 2007 I was on on the Elation (again) in June and had a great time. The OP very calmly stated her experience...give her a break. She stated that she sailed Carnival 3x. She doesn't like it. CCL isn't for everybody. Hell, cruising isn't for everybody. (not that this makes sense to me, but it's true ;) ) One less passenger makes more room for us who like it :D To the OP: I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your cruise. quickrate Posted August 21, 2007 #40 Share Posted August 21, 2007 we were on Elation last december and had a great cruise-I've been on 10 carnival cruises so far and find that each ship has its own charm. My favorite is the Spirit class but any cruise is a good cruise! We never get on the ship looking for her flaws,we approach each trip with anticipation and usually all lives up to our expectation. I have found most of life is attitude-we get what we expect!
Kurbanfan Posted August 21, 2007 #41 Share Posted August 21, 2007 After many cruises on many lines I have decided that Carnival is not my favorite and that I would not be going with them again. The company I work for planned an event on the Carnival Elation. Since this was a free crusie, I was not going to say no. We left on Thursday Aug 16 and just got back today Monday Aug 20. I am sure I could think of other things good and bad, but I cant at this time. So that's my story, and after having 3 tries with Carnival that will be it. (unless we get to go for free again!) All the other cruise lines we have been on have been much better, so we will stick with them. Let me know if you have any questions. Sounds like you already decided you did not like Carnival and stated you would not be sailing with them again. But you went because it was free. To me it sounds like you already made up your mind before you even set sail. Then after this cruise or should I say 3 tries that will be it for Carnival. But yet you mention again unless it was free:confused: So you can once more set yourself up for disappointment:confused: Sounds to me if you will go again and again for free it could not have been that bad.... Just my take on it.... Yes I have a question.
DAllenTCY Posted August 21, 2007 #42 Share Posted August 21, 2007 I'm just curious as to why the OP had a bad debark. Mostly, the Elation is self debark, and there are seldom problems finding luggage, taxis, etc. The ship always arrives ontime, because it only comes from Ensenada. Because it is never more than a 5 day sailing, less luggage is involved. Debark is usually over by 10:15am, leaving time to clean up the public areas before embarkation starts at 11:45am. I've been on 7 Carnival cruises (23 total sailings) and not all are comparable. But a bad debark in San Diego is news to me. David

That is what I did and used a glass for an ashtray. Yes, I don't understand the OP about the smoking thing. Her boyfriend asked for an ashtray and was told he couldn't smoke? Wonder where he was. On the other hand, why would you use a glass for an ashtray?? All you had to do is ask your steward for an ashtray. Hell...he'll even give you 2 if you want! Smoking is allowed in the cabins! Kurbanfan Posted August 21, 2007 #44 Share Posted August 21, 2007 But a bad debark in San Diego is news to me.David That's a new one on me too LOL! Having sailed out of San Diego several times myself I have to say that is the easiest port to sail out of. For both embarking and debarking. When the OP got off the ship on the 20th that was the only ship there. Unless they had some kind of immigration problems I would be hard pressed to believe it could be bad........ FlorenceItaly Posted August 21, 2007 #45 Share Posted August 21, 2007 San Diego is my favorite port to go out of. You will notice my next two cruises are out of San Diego. That was very intentional. Marie

dan40 Posted August 22, 2007 #49 Share Posted August 22, 2007 I first want to say that this is just what I feel, no one has to listen to me, so please do not try to fight here. I am just sharing my info and I know that evey cruise line has people who love it and hate it. I also want to say that I have been on many, many cruises, so this is not info from a newbie. After many cruises on many lines I have decided that Carnival is not my favorite and that I would not be going with them again. The company I work for planned an event on the Carnival Elation. Since this was a free crusie, I was not going to say no. We left on Thursday Aug 16 and just got back today Monday Aug 20. First the good things - The food was pretty good and I got lots of free drinks because my company paid for lots of private events and drinks with dinner. Our dining room staff was great, very nice, helpful and very fast. Our cabin steward was great, and was on top of keeping the room clean as usual. The bad - The ship is older and is showing it, the main issue was that every hall smelled like smoke. This is kinda funny because my boyfriend smokes, and when he asked for an ashtry they said we couldnt smoke. Too many kids in the hot tubs, we couldnt even use them because they filled them all up and no one ever said anything to them. Many of the staff were rude or just unhelpful. Everything was way unorganized. Lucky for us we planned one of the shore excursions with them, but it still took us forever to get off the boat then had to wait at the pier for almost an hour to wait for the rest of the group. Other people we talked to said that they had to wait HOURS to get off and by the time they did, they only had 3 HOURS TO SPEND IN CABO. We also had the worst disembarkation ever. I am sure I could think of other things good and bad, but I cant at this time. So thats my story, and after having 3 trys with Carnival that will be it. (unless we get to go for free again!) All the other cruise lines we have been on have been much better, so we will stick with them. Let me know if you have any questions. You don't like Carnival, I do. But then I've very much enjoyed every line I've sailed. Even the ones that have gone under. But nothing says you have to like every line too. And nothing says you have to like Carnival. So ba-bye and I hope you enjoy whatever line you try next. Dan
April2412 Posted August 22, 2007 Author #50 Share Posted August 22, 2007 Ok, if anyone read my first few lines you would see that I have cruised a handful of crusie lines, and that after 3 trys Carnival was my least favorite. I am not saying that they are sooooo BAD, and that NO ONE ELSE should cruise with them OR like them. I hapen to like RCCL and Costa, and I know that MANY people dont like Costa at all. This is just my taste and I was just putting it out for anyone to read. Here is some answers to all the questions The hallways to the cabin are the places that had the smell, some of the decks had a strange smell as well. We actually didnt mind that too much, but thought that it was strange when my boyfriend asked out cabin steward for an ashtray and he said that we couldnt smoke. Yes, I know that kids are always around in the summer. I just dont like the fact that I NEVER saw anyone ask the LARGE groups of kids to get out of the hot tub so the adults could get in. I have seen this happen on other lines but not on Carnival. Some of the staff was not the best. I will say that one of the issues that made me upset was with the purser. I will also say that it may have been because we had the VERY large group and had to do a hunt that took us to the purser, so mabe after 80 people kept asking them for the same thing they got pissed. That may be why, but still it is their job, so they should be able to deal with it. Also, from my past experiences with Carnival compared to other lines, the service (to me) just seems better elsewhere. I dont know what was up with the tender service into Cabo, but it was very slow, and I cant figure out why. Disembarkation also took FOREVER, way longer than I have experienced with any line (Carnival or others) ever. I dont know why this was, but I know it was not due to Customs because once we got to them it went super fast. And to everyone that said I should try a newer ship, or a longer cruise, I have. All the other times I have sailed with Carnival it has been for 7 days. I was on the Pride, and it was one of the most beautiful ships I have ever seen. So, I just prefer other lines. Dont get mad, if you like Carnival keep going on them and dont listen to me. One more thing, of course I would go on a free crusie again! Are you people kidding, I got paid to go on a free crusie, you would have to be crazy to say no to that. I dont dislike Carnival that much to say no to a free crusie. A free not-so-great crusie is better than no cruise at all!
