Computer prices..for just 5 minutes

Hi all,

We will be flying home from the cruise on Southwest. For those that know Southwest, you want to check in 24 hours before your flight, otherwise you are almost guaranteed a middle seat. (There are three of us flying, DH, DS, and myself) Anyone know the cost of 5 minutes of computer time on the ship? I probably should have done a search on this...my apologies in advance.

Without buying a package, which is 100-250 minutes, the stand alone rate is 75 cents/minute. FYI, on the last day of the cruise, it took me almost 20 minutes to check in with Delta due to the heavy internet traffic as eveyone was trying to do the same thing at the same time.

Good Luck!

Just did this in June on the Liberty for our SW flight. Cost me about $13.00. $3.95 setup fee, printing 4 boarding passes, and $.75 per minute. I think it was $.50 per page but not certain.

Thanks for the info! Now I'm wondering if it's cheaper to use my blackberry to check-in??? Decisions, Decisions...lol

If you can grab a signal, do it. I have checked in to Southwest via blackberry and just didnt print until I got to the airport kiosk. Many people flying SW during my cruise were frustrated with the ships internet.

Bill is correct with his prices; I just did this on the Glory on Friday. It cost me about $13.50 because the computer was really slow. Another option you might have is using an internet cafe if you are in a port that offers one. I couldn't do this because we were at sea at my 24-hour check-in time. Finally, at our last day at sea, Carnival offered a half-price internet time plan from 9:00 AM -12 Noon. The cheapest time plan would have been about $25. I considered doing this, and letting my kids use up the remaining time, but ended up not doing it. For this plan, you had to initially log in between 9-12, and could use the rest of the time later. IMHO, even if it costs you $13.00 or so, I would do it. If you don't get that "A" boarding pass with Southwest, your family will be split up all over the plane.

Why dont you ask someone who isnt traveling with you to do it for you? Just leave them your confirmation number and tell them to check you in 24 hrs ahead of time.

Also, if you have a phone that can go online, you can try that, although there arent guarantees that you will be able to log on. I always check in Southwest through my phone.

One more thing, i have seen on some cruises that they offer a 50% off internet special the day before the last day of your cruise.

For Southwest you don't need to print your boarding pass. Check in online to secure your boarding group, then present your identification to the check-in counter at the airport and request a reprint of your boarding pass. You won't lose the boarding group you were assigned previously.

This is also true. My son was down in West Palm Beach a few weeks ago and didn't have access to a computer. We checked him in online in the A group. He got the boarding passes at the airport , no problem.:)

the lines get very busy on the last day and waits are long -- in the past we had a friend or family member back home do it for us. we just left exact directions of what we wanted with our booking numbers etc to get into the website and had them do it -- then they sent us an email or left a phone mesg to let us know the details -- that was much quicker than dealing with the airline - epec. at $1/min.......
