GCT Trip Cancellation

At the end of May we made reservations for Grand Circles Romance of the Rhine and Mosel leaving September 3, 2008 on the Bizet. One reason for the early booking was to assure cabin selection. Their most recent catalogue did not list this trip. This made me a little nervous so I called GC. I was told the trip had been cancelled. The first thing I did was re-book on another GC ship and then talked to a supervisor to complain that no one had contacted me to adivse us of the cancellation. The response from the supervisor was as follows:

  1. Someone (from a different department) would be calling me to advise of the cancellation. I pointed out that the trip must have been cancelled for at least 6 weeks since that's about how much lead time is needed to produce a catalogue. Six weeks (or more) and no call. Is this a GC/industry standard?
  2. I pointed out that the trip I had re-booked also was not listed in the current catalogue. She told me that many of their specific dates are not in the catalogue (they have too many to publish) but when people call all dates are available. My obvious concern is that if this trip is not "published" it may not fill up and will also be cancelled. Does anyone know if it is true that they don't publish all dates for a specific trip?

Finally, in my haste to re-book I selected a trip leaving September 1, 2008 which I lated realized is Labor Day. Does anyone have any comments about the advisability of flying international on Labor Day?

I think GCT will be reasonable based upon the trip lead time. They cancelled a trip on me this year. They did not offer the trip later in the year (I would have bought it). I bought from Gate1. Not to have retraveled with GCT within 1 year, by-the-book, I would have lost some of my travel credits. They let me keep them anyway. They will be fair I think.
