Pre-boarding liquor purchase

Recommended Posts

This may be ancient history, but on a November 2001 West. Carib. Thanksgiving cruise aboard the Millenium, there was a kiosk set up before

boarding where we could purchase liquor for onboard consumption. Prices

were reasonable and we could carry the booze and/or wine onto the ship

with us! Does anyone know if this was a limited time experiment, a one shot deal, or what? Thanks. (Would love to see this again!)

Just returned from a Celebrity and didn't see a purchase set up except for buying a bottle for your dining rooms meals. I've never seen that kind of set up for other cruise lines either. Never understand why they have a liquor store on board ships where you can buy but won't receive until you leave.

They don't do this anymore. Rumors have that if you go to the duty free shop with your own bag sometimes they will give it to you. Others go through gyrations (plastic bottles, etc) to get stuff on. You can get yourself a "sailaway" package directly from X but it costs more.

You can also just take the stuff on in your carryon when going on board. While prohibited, they don't have time to do a shake-down on the first day of embarkation. You go through port security for xrays/metal detector on the first day. You go on board and all you do is get your picture taken on your seapass.

You're allowed to board with 2 bottles of wine per stateroom. We've done it with more but we won't be doing it Sept. 2 on our next cruise. No really we won't.We've also never boarded in port with alcohol in our back packs;) We really haven't blown it by being overly intoxicated on any of our cruises.Just act right and you'll be O.K.
