sandyma Posted August 24, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 24, 2004 Can anyone tell me if the hike to Trafalgar Falls is to difficult for older people? We have a group of 20 going soon, and need some tips.
cowtec Posted August 29, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 29, 2004 We were at Trafalgar Falls in April. I walked the trail to the overlook at the Falls - my husband, who is 58 decided to wait at an area at the beginning of the trail where there were benches, a small food area, and restrooms. I am 54 and really had no trouble with the hike - remember it is through a rainforest so it can be a little damp. There were several places where you needed to watch your footing. About 2/3 of the way to the falls, there is an overlook - you have a wonderful view of both the falls or you can continue along a steeper path to the rocks at the bottom of the falls. I thought it was a beautiful walk in - I personally didn't find it too difficult. I don't know if that helps..... :o Sue
pholter Posted August 29, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 29, 2004 Sue- thanks for the info. Can you comment on mosquitos?? Are they an issue there?
cowtec Posted August 30, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2004 We didn't have any problem with mosquitos but there were plenty of little gnat-like buggies around. I don't normally get bitten, so they didn't bother me too much. DH is much more susceptible than I am, and he didn't seem to be a target, either. I would go prepared with repellant if you go to the Falls and the Emerald Pool, just in case. Sue
